TEDDY BAKER - underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after not having raced for a considerable period of time and was cleared to start. Fractious prior to the start. Hampered early in the score up however was in position at the start. Weakened final bend. When questioned regarding the performance trainer/driver M Williamson advised the gelding had over-raced and he would be making gear changes prior to racing next.

DEFY ME - over-raced and became awkwardly placed to the back of CARRERA RAPIDO racing into the first bend having to be steadied. Again over-raced when there was a slight easing of the pace near the 1100m and shifted outwards hampering trailing runners and broke. Stewards questioned driver Z Butcher regarding the performance who advised the horse had raced greenly on the bends and objected to being restrained. Stewards placed a warning on the racing record of the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination at the request of the connections revealed swelling on a hind leg which was treated.

Mr Edge admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) and the Whip and Rein Regulations in that he used his whip free of the rein on one occasion in the run home. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $250.
