WHATSUPMAN - broke at the start losing ground. Shifted inwards abruptly passing the 100m causing interference to THE TOWN OF LIGHT and MAJOR LI. Authorisation of 3rd placing was withheld until Stewards had spoken to drivers S Thornley (THE TOWN OF LIGHT) placed 4th and B Orange (MAJOR LI) placed 5th with both drivers advising their chances had not been affected and they did not wish to proceed with a protest. A warning was placed on the racing record of WHATSUPMAN. Trainer A Stuart advised he would be making gear changes prior to the gelding racing next.

JACK'S EYRE - briefly raced in restricted room entering the first bend when shifting ground inwards simultaneously to MONKEE MAJOR. Held up by a weakening runner rounding the final bend and early in the run home.

JACK'S EYRE - paced roughly and became awkwardly placed close to the sulky of AMICI rounding the final bend resulting in trailing runners being checked. Stewards questioned drivers B Hope (JACK'S EYRE) and J Dunn (AMICI) regarding this incident. It was established that Mr Dunn had attempted to shift AMICI wider on the track prior to UKRAINE improving to his outside however due to the speed of that runner, he elected not to continue his outward movement to avoid the risk of locking wheels. This resulted in a slight easing of the pace, with JACK'S EYRE becoming awkwardly placed behind AMICI having to be steadied. After considering the explanation of both drivers and viewing the replays, Stewards were satisfied that no one horse or driver was solely at fault and accordingly no further action was taken.

When questioned regarding the performance Mr Morrison advised the mare had worked hard when over-racing in the early stages which had taken its toll. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a high heart rate and slow recovery. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.

Mr Dunn advised that when he shifted outwards the one out line had commenced to improve and he elected to follow the improving DAWN TO DARK into the race however simultaneously BETTERWITHBLING shifted inwards to the three wide line resulting in him becoming held up behind the weakening MOONLITE CC. After hearing from Mr Dunn and viewing the replays, Stewards were satisfied that his explanation was not unreasonable at the time.
