CARLIN - broke briefly at the start and proved difficult for driver M Holbrough to restrain. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Authorisation of CARLIN's 3rd placing was withheld until Stewards had reviewed all available race footage and were satisfied the gelding had not gained an advantage over any other runner while in a break during the initial stages. After considering all available footage and the submissions of Driver M Holbrough (assisted by A Butt), Stewards determined that although CARLIN did not lose ground while in a break the gelding had not gained an advantage over any other runner as a result. Stewards were also satisfied that Miss Holbrough had taken all reasonable steps to return the gelding to its correct gait. Accordingly, authorisation of the gelding's 3rd placing was declared.

After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty, the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $300. Mrs Negus advised she had been unable to activate the hopple shorteners after becoming entangled.
