Broke over the concluding stages and continued on in a break across the finish line. Authorisation of 3rd placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation and was not lapped on at the finish.

Stewards lodged a protest against 2nd placing being awarded under Rule 870(5) alleging the gelding was lapped on at the finish by MILES AWAY and ROYAL DEL. Connections did not contest the protest and JOHNNY TROTTER was relegated to 4th placing by Stewards. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.

Driver J Morrison admitted a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) in that he drove carelessly in this incident. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $300.

When questioned regarding the performance driver H Orange advised the mare had trotted roughly on occasions and had raced keenly. Mr Morrison advised he was not disappointed with the performance considering the mare was racing up in grade from its last start and had raced wide early before reaching the parked position.
