The start was delayed due to BARRYTOWN charging the barrier strand. Driver G Telfer defended a breach of Rule 858(1)(a) in that he anticipated the start causing a delay. After hearing evidence from Stewards, Starter R Donnelly, driver G Telfer and viewing the replays, the Adjudicative Committee upheld the charge and imposed a fine of $200.

When questioned regarding the performance driver S Thornley advised that after settling at the rear of the field he was reluctant to improve three wide without cover through the middle stages and was unable to make up any ground from this position over the concluding stages due to the fast closing sectionals. Mr Thornley added in his opinion the gelding is better suited when able to race on or close to the pace.
