A post-race veterinary examination revealed early symptoms of a respiratory infection. When questioned regarding the performance Driver J Dunn reported that the filly had raced lethargically throughout and could offer no explanation for the disappointing run.

PIONEER - reared as the start was effected and broke losing all chance. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.

I SPY DIAMONDS - over-raced through the middle stages when leading. Shifted inwards into the passing lane despite the efforts of driver S O'Reilly crowding PIONEER before locking wheels with that runner passing the 150m and again near the 50m. A protest was lodged against 2nd placing being awarded to the mare under Rule 869A(2) by driver J Morrison (PIONEER) placed 3rd, alleging interference in the run home. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from all parties the Adjudicative Committee upheld the protest and I SPY DIAMONDS was relegated to 3rd placing. When questioned driver S O'Reilly advised the mare had proved difficult to drive throughout placing her at a disadvantage. A final warning was placed on the racing record of I SPY DIAMONDS.

When questioned regarding the performance driver B Orange advised the gelding had worked hard through the middle stages when improving to the lead with the effort taking its toll and he expected the gelding would derive significant benefit from the race in what was its first start back after a spell.

SOLAR NEIGH - trainer T Bagrie was issued a $50 Minor Infringement Notice for being late to notify gear for the gelding. Checked and broke after 150m losing ground. Raced greenly passing the 600m before weakening. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a high heart rate and slow recovery. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.

Trainer G Smith advised Stewards on 9 February that LIGHT ME UP has been treated for a bacterial infection since last racing.

LIGHT ME UP - when questioned regarding the performance trainer/driver G Smith advised after settling near the rear of the field the colt had been unable to improve its position due to the tempo of the race. Mr Smith added that after being held up round the final bend he was pleased with the way the horse had finished off the race.
