When questioned regarding the performance trainer/driver C Ferguson advised the gelding had been striking a knee and may have peaked on its run. Mr Ferguson added he expected the horse would derive considerable benefit from the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Driver M House defended a breach of Rule 869(4) and the Home Straight Regulations in that he failed to maintain a straight course in the run home resulting in DON JUAN being hampered. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from Stewards and Mr House the Adjudicative Committee dismissed the charge.

Junior driver T Duley (assisted by M Purvis) admitted a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) in that she drove carelessly when allowing her runner to contact the sulky wheel of MOTOR MOUTH near the 250m which punctured. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $250. Shifted outwards and locked wheels briefly with MOTOR MOUTH near the 50m. Miss Duley was warned to take greater care when activating gear.
