JACCKA BAYLIS - weakened final turn. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have superficial lacerations to both hind legs that required treatment. Stood down pending a Veterinary clearance prior to resuming. When questioned regarding the performance Driver W House advised the gelding had become unsettled when contacting its own sulky wheel discs so he felt his best option was to work forward in an attempt to gain the lead, however Driver J Abernethy (EAGLE HANOVER) had been intent on holding the front with JACCKA BAYLIS then racing without cover for the remainder.

ZOLTAN BOSCIK - Stewards questioned driver L Whittaker regarding the tactics he adopted passing the 700m when electing to shift inwards and race on the marker line. Mr Whittaker explained that the horse had recently returned from a spell and due to the race being run at a slow tempo in the middle stages he felt if he had improved wide on the track he would be forced to race very wide on the final bend. Mr Whittaker added that the horse had been hanging outwards causing him some difficulty and felt his best option was to shift inwards and save ground. After considering his explanation Stewards were satisfied his actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances and took the matter no further. Mr Whittaker admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) and the Whip and Rein Regulations in that he used his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion and in a continuous manner in the run home.
