When questioned regarding the performance Mr DeFilippi advised the gelding had raced lethargically throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.

TREACHEROUS BABY - lay in at various stages. When questioned regarding the performance Driver M Purdon advised the mare is best suited when held up for one run so he elected to go back early from a wide draw. He added the strong tempo over the closing sectionals and the fact the mare had been laying in over the concluding stages had made it difficult to make up ground and was not disappointed with the effort.

Stewards spoke to Drivers S Phelan (JEREMIAH) and N Williamson (DREAMS ARE FREE) regarding this incident and after hearing their explanation and viewing the replays both drivers were advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.
