Stood down pending a veterinary clearance including the results of an ECG prior to completing one satisfactory trial before resuming.

When questioned regarding the performance trainer/driver C Ferguson advised the gelding had been striking a knee and may have peaked on its run. Mr Ferguson added he expected the horse would derive considerable benefit from the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

When questioned regarding the performance driver K Newman advised the mare had been challenged for the lead through the middle stages with the effort taking its toll. When questioned regarding the tactics he adopted driver R Close advised that after breaking in the early stages he elected to remain at the rear of the field and attempt to obtain cover in the three wide line from the 800m however ULTURA which he had been following had failed to progress forward leaving him poorly placed rounding the final bend. Trainer M Purvis advised Stewards on 24 April that KOTARE KELSO has had a fetlock and hock treated since last racing.

TROUBLESHOOTER - crowded shortly after the start by an outside runner. Hampered near the 2200m. Shifted inwards inside the final 50m when driver R May activated the removable deafeners resulting in contact with the hind leg of KOTARE KELSO (S Thornley) which broke late in the run home. Driver R May defended a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) alleging he drove carelessly in this incident. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from Stewards and both drivers the Adjudicative Committee dismissed the charge.
