A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.

After questioning drivers G Smith (KUSHITE WARRIOR) and B Orange (BLACKJACK) it was established that KUSHITE WARRIOR had over-raced when clear running briefly presented, simultaneous to BLACKJACK laying outwards with no one horse or driver deemed to be at fault.

HI LIFE - hampered by a breaking runner early in the score up of the restart. Held up early in the run home. Stewards lodged a protest against 4th placing being awarded under Rule 859(2) alleging HI LIFE (R Harrison) started from the incorrect barrier position inside BLACKJACK at the restart despite having the opportunity to be in its correct position resulting in the horse gaining an advantage. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from Stewards and junior driver R Harrison (assisted by G Smith) the Adjudicative Committee dismissed the protest. Miss Harrison admitted an associated charge in that she allowed HI LIFE to start from the incorrect position and the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $300.

When questioned regarding the improved performance Mr Chmiel advised the gelding had been racing from bad draws in recent starts and after drawing favourably tonight he had been able to lead and ease the tempo of the race through the middle stages which had suited the horse.
