Ms Northcott explained she believed the tempo of the race was easing and given the mare's recent tendency to be unable to quicken in the final stages when racing with cover, she elected to shift into the open in an effort to improve the pace and encourage the mare to race more competitively. She further advised the mare had appreciated a recent gear change. Stewards noted Ms Northcott's explanation.

ADJOURNMENT - lay out over the early and middle stages. Paced roughly after contacting a track marker near the 1300m when in restricted room to the inside of MIKI'S MOMENT which lay in. Forced down in the passing lane briefly passing the 1100m after becoming awkwardly placed to the sulky of MIKI'S MOMENT which was attempting to cross to the lead. Stewards held an investigation into this incident and after hearing evidence from Driver P Ferguson (MIKI'S MOMENT), Junior Driver K Denifostova (ADJOURNMENT), assisted by J Abernethy, and viewing the replays Stewards issued Mr Ferguson with a warning for the manner in which he shifted ground at this stage. Ms Denifostova was spoken to advisedly for using her whip when out of contention in the run home.

When questioned regarding the mare's performance, and specifically why he shifted out from the trailing position near the 1000m, driver T Mitchell advised the mare had been over-racing in what was its first start for six months causing him some difficulty and for this reason he shifted out as he believed had he not done so the horse might have choked down. Stewards noted Mr Mitchell's comments. Mr Mitchell also indicated that he will be recommending gear changes prior to racing next. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
