Junior driver K Coppins, assisted by senior driver T Mitchell, admitted a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) in that she drove carelessly near the 750m by allowing her horse to strike the sulky wheel of BAILEYS PITCH resulting in the tyre being punctured. After viewing the replays and hearing the submissions on penalty, the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $250.

THE BIG BANG - paced roughly when leading rounding the first turn and again near the 800m when appearing to step over shadows. Paced roughly on a further occasion approaching the 250m after contacting a track marker and shifted out having to be corrected. M Hay advised that this runner had raced greenly in this incident which he attributed to the gelding spotting the Ambulance which was positioned in the outfield. Steward's noted Mr Hay's comments.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have a minor laceration to the near fore pastern which was treated. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.

Driver J Abernethy was warned for the manner in which he shifted ground approaching the 1000m which resulted in PRINCESS LISA being momentarily hampered. Weakened final turn and lay in contacting a track marker near the 250m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. Mr Abernethy was issued a charge under Rule 869(3)(g) alleging that he drove in a manner which diminished his mare's chances of winning by persisting with a challenge for the lead over the initial 550m. The matter was opened and adjourned sine die by the Adjudicative Committee.

Stewards noted Mr Mitchell's comments. Mr Mitchell also indicated that he will be recommending gear changes prior to racing next. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
