The start was delayed at the first attempt when the field was turned out of line due to Starter D Blakemore not being satisfied with the manner in which the runners approached the barriers. The start was further delayed for approximately 8 minutes when REWIRI HILL became fractious and reared before landing in the sulky of HIGHVIEW ROCKN ROLL dislodging driver E Johnson who was uninjured. REWIRI HILL and HIGHVIEW ROCKN ROLL underwent veterinary examinations and were cleared to start. REWIRI HILL was sent to the unruly by the Starter for the restart. A protest was lodged against 4th placing being awarded under Rule 870(3) and the Breaking Horses Regulation alleging the mare had broken in excess of 150m. Connections did not contest the protest and HIGHVIEW ROCKN ROLL was disqualified by Stewards. Junior Driver E Johnson was spoken to for the manner in which she retired the mare from the race. A warning was placed on the racing manners of the mare.

After viewing the replays the connections did not contest the protest and KING OF DIAMONDS was relegated to 2nd placing by the Stewards.
