When questioned regarding the tactics he adopted in the middle stages Driver Z Butcher advised that he had initially commenced to follow DIXIELAND DELIGHT when that runner improved forward three wide near the 1150m but that his gelding had paced roughly so he elected to steady back down into the running line before then attempting to improve racing down the back the last time. Stewards noted Mr Butcher's comments.

I CAN TOO - crowded by an outside runner near the 1600m having to be steadied. Stewards questioned drivers T Cameron (GREAT WHITE) and B Butcher (I CAN TOO) regarding this incident and after viewing the replays and considering their explanations, Mr Cameron was issued with a warning to make a greater effort to ensure he is fully clear when shifting ground. Held up final bend. Driver B Butcher was warned to exercise greater care when shifting ground after crowding an outside runner rounding the final bend.

THE NIGHT FOX - raced wide early. Weakened rounding the final bend hampering trailing runners. When questioned regarding the performance driver B Orange advised the gelding had not been suited by having to work hard when racing wide. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

BARBAROSSA - over-raced middle stages. Lay out near the 600m contacting and puncturing the sulky wheel of CONRAD H and then broke with the near hind hopple loop breaking losing all chance. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners. Driver K Coppins (assisted by T Mitchell) was shown the replay and spoken to advisedly in relation to the manner in which she drove in the incident near the 600m. Ms Coppins advised that BARBAROSSA had been contacting its own sulky wheel with a hind leg causing it to over-race.

IT'S NAE OR NEVER - Trainer N Chilcott was issued a $100 Minor Infringement Notice for presenting the filly to race with blinds instead of the notified sliding blinds. Placed in restricted room from the 100m by an inside runner then was checked and had to be steadied when an outside runner shifted in near the 40m. Stewards could not attribute blame solely to any horse or driver so took the matter no further.

NEYMAR - Stewards lodged a protest under Rule 870(5) against this runner's 2nd placing alleging the gelding had galloped late in the run home and was lapped on at the finish by the 3rd placed IT'S NAE OR NEVER. After viewing the replays the protest was not contested by connections and NEYMAR was relegated to 3rd placing by Stewards.
