The start was delayed at the first attempt when the field was turned out of line due to Starter D Blakemore not being satisfied with the manner in which the runners approached the barriers. The start was further delayed for approximately 8 minutes when REWIRI HILL became fractious and reared before landing in the sulky of HIGHVIEW ROCKN ROLL dislodging driver E Johnson who was uninjured. REWIRI HILL and HIGHVIEW ROCKN ROLL underwent veterinary examinations and were cleared to start. REWIRI HILL was sent to the unruly by the Starter for the restart. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding due to the initial delay to the start .

Driver L Chin admitted a charge under Rule 868(2) in that failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures during the middle stages to ensure his gelding was given full opportunity to win or obtain the best possible position and/or finishing place by persisting with a challenge for the lead which resulted in this runner weakening rounding the final turn to finish in 11th place.
