When questioned Driver D Ferguson explained that he had been restraining to look to take up a position closer to the marker line with SWEET VINTAGE, which he was trailing, also being restrained at this point with his gelding contributing to the incident by being slow to respond when being steadied and became awkwardly placed to the sulky of SWEET VINTAGE. Stewards noted Mr Ferguson's comments and took the matter no further.

MAGENTA - locked wheels with an inside runner passing the 400m losing all chance. Stewards questioned junior driver H Moralde Sands (assisted by T Herlihy) regarding this matter and after viewing the replays and hearing from both drivers it was established that the filly while improving quickly rounding the final bend had hung inwards causing Miss Moralde Sands some difficulty when being shifted wider on the track by MERLE MARY which resulted in both runners locking wheels. After considering all factors, Stewards deemed that no further action was required.

When questioned regarding the performance Trainer/Driver D Butcher advised the gelding was still learning to race and was unable to quicken with the leaders rounding the final bend despite his urgings. Mr Butcher added the gelding had finished the race off well and he was pleased with the effort.

IMON - paced roughly approaching the 200m when to the outside of JUST JAMES which shifted ground outwards. Driver A Poutama advised that the gelding had raced intractably at various stages during the running after the sliding blinds activated in the score up and felt that his runner had contributed to the incident by laying inwards as JUST JAMES shifted ground to its inside. Notwithstanding this Stewards warned Driver C Hackett (JUST JAMES) to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances in the future.

A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier and racing manners. Stewards questioned Driver M White in relation to the incident rounding the first turn and were satisfied that Mr White had shifted ground at this stage for safety reasons and took the matter no further.

ABMAN - contacted and punctured the sulky tyre of LOVEABLE ROGUE passing the 1000m when shifting away from the marker line. Driver B Butcher admitted a charge under Rule 869(3)(b) in that he drove carelessly in this incident. After viewing the replays and hearing penalty submissions the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Butcher's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 4 January 2026 (3 days). Mr Butcher was also issued a warning for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion early in the run home.
