CAPTAIN KOBE - Stewards investigated a possible breach of the Push Out Rule near the 1700m when this runner raced wider on the track after shifting out off the back of TASI AHNAU. It was established that TASI AHNAU had shifted up the track when being steadied near the 1750m prior to CAPTAIN KOBE reaching its sulky wheel. These two runners then locked wheels briefly approaching the 1500m.

After speaking to drivers J Morrison (HEAVEN'S MARK) and W House (CAPTAIN KOBE), Stewards were satisfied no one horse or driver was solely to blame and took the matter no further.

Shifted out further rounding the final turn despite the efforts of Driver P Ferguson carrying GOTTA ELECT BILL wider on the track. A final warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners. Authorisation of LORD DELMAR's 3rd placing was withheld until Driver S Abernethy (GOTTA ELECT BILL - 4th placing) had viewed the replays and elected not to proceed with a protest, with placings then being duly authorised.

MARKETPLACE - when questioned regarding his tactics Driver C Ferguson advised that after having gone forward early he had been left without cover after GOT THE CHOCOLATES shifted to the marker line rounding the first turn so elected to restrain to the rear after the early effort. Mr Ferguson further stated that he then felt that his best option was to remain at the rear as he considered that the lead, which was being held by BETTORS ANVIL, would not have been available and that racing without cover on a wet track may have been to his detriment. He then added that he had followed THE JOLLY ROGER when that runner commenced to improve without cover from the 1200m before then shifting three wide to improve from the 500m but MARKETPLACE had felt rocky when not handling the final turn as well as he would have liked and believed that the gelding may still have won but for this. After considering the matter Mr Ferguson's comments were duly noted.
