MIKI SHAN - broke near the 100m when disappointed for a run to the inside of AYE AYE CAPTAIN in the passing lane. After questioning Drivers M McKendry (MIKI SHAN), T Mitchell (AYE AYE CAPTAIN) and viewing the replays blame could not be solely attributed to either driver and Stewards took the matter no further other than to note the circumstances.

Driver M McKendry admitted a charge under Rule 869(3)(b) in that he shifted ground inwards near the 600m when not sufficiently clear of MERLIN which had to be restrained thereby losing its racing position. After hearing penalty submissions the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr McKendry's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing tonight up to and including 27 September 2024 (2 days).

AKATEA - Co-Trainer S Telfer advised Stewards on 29 August that the filly has had her knees treated since last having raced. Lay in striking a track marker near the 1300m. Raced fiercely throughout causing Driver K Denifostova considerable difficulty including early in the run home when attempting to shift wider to the inside of MIKI SHAN.

When questioned regarding the performance Mr Stormont stated after getting too far back in the running from its 30m handicap the gelding had been unable to make up much ground with the fast closing sectionals.

JOLIMONT - broke at the start losing ground. Driver T Mitchell admitted a charge under Rule 869 (5) in that he half carted for a distance racing through the front straight to receive the bell. After hearing penalty submissions the Adjudicative Committee issued a fine of $200.

BETTER ECLIPSE - Trainer J Tubbs was issued a warning for the late notification of blinds. Hampered shortly after the start. Over-raced middle stages. When questioned regarding the performance Driver G Sugars advised that he was slightly disappointed with the manner in which the gelding finished the race off. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.

REPUBLICAN PARTY - driver C Dalgety was warned for crossing the reins and performing a celebratory gesture late in the run home.

REPUBLICAN PARTY - held up final bend and lay inwards striking track markers. When questioned regarding the performance driver C Dalgety advised he was not disappointed after being held up rounding the final bend on a fast last quarter.

MO'UNGA - broke at the start losing ground. Held up early in the run home. Stewards questioned driver R Close regarding his tactics rounding the final bend in particular his decision to remain on the back of BEACH BALL when clearance existed for him to shift out near the 550m and again shortly after when being covered by TACT MCLEOD passing the 400m. Mr Close advised that after losing ground at the start he believed it was more beneficial to receive cover into the race at that stage and when he attempted to shift outwards shortly after onto the back of the improving REPUBLICAN PARTY the gelding had hung outwards and paced roughly having to be steadied. After considering his explanation and viewing the films Stewards were satisfied Mr Close's actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances and took the matter no further.

REPUBLICAN PARTY - driver C Dalgety dropped his foot from the sulky footrest for a distance rounding the first bend when attempting to activate gear. Mr Dalgety was spoken to regarding this and advised he is to make a better effort to return his foot to the sulky footrest at the earliest opportunity.

REPUBLICAN PARTY - broke briefly shortly after the start and was then hampered by a breaking runner. Raced wide with cover from the 1500m. Returned to the stabling area with blood present underneath the number on the near side. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the number had caused a superficial rub in the thorax area on a boil with no treatment required.

DON'T STOP DREAMING - Driver N Rasmussen was questioned regarding her decision not to shift out to lead up the running line prior to being covered by REPUBLICAN PARTY near the 1300m. Ms Rasmussen stated that she had been mindful that her runner had over-raced at its previous start when outside the leader and had warmed up quite aggressively prior to tonight's event so felt her best option was to look to improve with a trail rather than risk the entire over-racing again if left in the open. Stewards noted Ms Rasmussen's comments.

Stewards investigated an incident approaching the 1000m where this runner appeared to be forced to race wider briefly when KANGO shifted out from the running line. It was established that Driver D Butcher (KANGO) had commenced his outward movement prior to DON'T STOP DREAMING reaching his sulky wheel and no further action was deemed necessary.

THE BIG LEBOWSKI - required assistance from an attendant in the pre-race formation. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier manners. When questioned regarding the performance Driver Z Butcher stated that he had attempted to improve three wide approaching the 1400m but forward runners shifted out off the marker line in front of him. He further stated he then attempted to improve down the back straight the final time but had been unable to hold the back of LITTLE SPIKE and had raced wide thereafter. Mr Butcher also added that he had been more than satisfied with the performance given the 35m handicap and the manner in which the race had been run.
