DOUBLE PARKED - permission was granted for this runner to come to the mobile early after having become fractious when parading. The gelding then refused to follow the mobile in the initial stages of the score up with a false start being declared when it swung around getting a sulky shaft across its rump. Required assistance from an Attendant in the initial stages of the restart. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier manners.

Commenced to over-race shortly after and was taken forward to secure the parked position where it continued to over-race during the middle stages. Co-Trainers B Purdon & S Phelan were issued a $100 Minor Infringement Notice for failing to affix the side carrier so as not to come adrift.

IDOLOU - broke after 200m when leading, hampering a trailing runner and lost all chance. Trainer N Chilcott advised she would be adding an overcheck to the mare for the second day.

MANDOWN - weakened rounding final turn hampering trailing runners. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality. When questioned regarding the tactics he adopted during the middle stages Driver M White advised that he had initially been content to race without cover outside GLADYS GREENLAND but then decided to go forward in search of the lead passing the 1500m after he felt that Driver S Abernethy (GLADYS GREENLAND) had indicated that the front may be available however MANDOWN had raced greenly before crossing to the lead near the 1200m. Mr White further stated that he had then been able to ease the tempo through the 2nd quarter of the last mile but had received pressure from IDOLOU racing down the back the final time before commencing to weaken near the 400m. Mr White also added that the gelding had recorded comparable sectional times when winning over the same distance two starts back on the 2nd November and was disappointed with the run. After considering the matter Stewards were satisfied that the tactics adopted and the distance for which MANDOWN had challenged for the lead were not so unreasonable as to be culpable and no further action was deemed to be necessary.

When questioned Driver T Macfarlane confirmed that his gelding had contributed to the incident by shifting out when being steadied off the back of IDOLOU with no further action being deemed necessary.

When questioned regarding the performance subsequent to the meeting Caretaker Trainer Z Butcher advised that connections were disappointed with the run which he could only attribute to returning to lefthanded racing, where the gelding wears additional gear, along with the extra distance and rise in grade.
