Raced over further track markers passing the 100m after becoming awkwardly placed to the sulky of KAIPAKI JACK which had locked sulky stays with AMERICAN MUSCLE. Stewards noted the circumstances and took the matter no further.

Driver T Hanara reported that she sustained a punctured sulky tyre near the 500m. It was established that HIGH ENERGY had contacted the wheel when CASTANA shifted in marginally entering the turn. Stewards were satisfied that neither driver were solely at fault and took the matter no further.

Stewards questioned Driver D Butcher regarding his driving tactics in the run home. Mr Butcher explained that the gelding was having its first start in seven months and had experienced difficulty negotiating the bends, particularly the final bend. He further stated that the gelding had galloped during a recent workout, which made him cautious about placing the horse under undue pressure until it had fully balanced up in the run to the finish.

REGAL GIRL - Stewards investigated a possible breach of the Push Out Rule when this runner raced wider after SUNSET HILL shifted away from the marker line near the 1150m. It was established that Driver T Macfarlane (SUNSET HILL) had commenced his outward movement prior to REGAL GIRL reaching its sulky wheel and no further action was deemed necessary.

The start was delayed when DRAGONSTONE reared and lunged forward through the front barrier. A warning was placed on the mare's barrier manners. The start was further delayed when DRAGONSTONE again reared and went through the front barrier, however it was established there had been an issue with the 10m handicap horses which resulted in Starter D Blakemore not being satisfied that a fair start could be effected. The race eventually started 7 minutes late.
