CASTANA - Junior Driver T Hanara (assisted by B Butcher) admitted a charge under Rule 869(2) and the Whip and Rein Regulations in that she used her whip with more than a wrist flicking motion and in a continuous manner in the run home. After hearing submissions on penalty, the Adjudicative Committee imposed a fine of $500. Ms Hanara was also warned for crossing her reins and performing a celebratory gesture late in the run home.

BRAVEHEARTHIGHLANDER - held up final turn. When questioned regarding his decision to remain on the back of the leader SANINARMBRO approaching the 500m prior to having been covered by CASTANA, Junior Driver J Dunn (assisted by B Butcher) explained that SANINARMBRO appeared to be travelling well at this stage and felt that the mare would take him to the passing lane however this had not occurred on this occasion. Stewards were satisfied that the manner in which Mr Dunn drove was not unreasonable given the circumstances and took the matter no further.

JOHNNY WHO - raced wide from the 1400m. When questioned regarding the performance Driver A Poutama advised that the gelding had dropped the bit when left wide without cover. Trainer S Doody advised he was disappointed with the performance and would give consideration to freshening this runner. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.

REGAL GIRL - underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having raced at Cambridge the previous evening and was cleared to start. Lay inwards throughout the run home.

REGAL GIRL - raced fiercely on several occasions throughout the running. Shifted outwards rounding the final bend when the driver activated gear. Junior driver H Moralde Sands (assisted by S Abernethy) was shown the films and was reminded of her obligations when activating gear in similar circumstances.

REGAL GIRL - trotted roughly near the 800m losing ground. Broke briefly leaving the final bend. Stewards spoke with junior drivers A Harrison (assisted by P Ferguson) and H Orange (OCEAN EYES) who declined the assistance of a senior driver. It was established that Mr Orange had shifted out in a safe manner and REGAL GIRL had lay inwards marginally simultaneously to runners ahead also shifting wider at the point of the bend. When taking into account the circumstances Stewards took the matter no further and deemed it to be a racing incident.

CON GRAZIA LOVE - had to be steadied near the 2000m after briefly racing wider when to the outside of SHESGOLD which had been moved down the track marginally when BRAVEHEARTHIGHLANDER shifted down from a three wide position into the running line. Stewards were satisfied that SHESGOLD had not been shifted fully down on to the marker line and took the matter no further. Over-raced middle stages. When questioned regarding the performance Driver E Johnson stated that the 30m handicap and a moderate tempo in the middle stages had made it difficult to make up ground over the final stages.
