Selection for the Final (8 May 2026) will be determined as follows: the first five official placegetters in the Prelude will automatically qualify for selection, if nominated for the Young Guns Easton Light Classic Group 1 $100,000 (8 May 2026). The balance of the field will be selected by the HRNZ Bureau. To contest the Young Guns Easton Light Classic a trotter NEED NOT contest the Prelude but must be qualified and passed from the mobile start.

DUKE OF BOURBON - broke shortly after the start and galloped for a considerable distance losing ground. A warning was placed on the colt's barrier manners. Stewards lodged a protest against this runner's 2nd placing under Rule 870(3) and the Breaking Horses Regulation alleging the colt had broken in excess of 150m over the early stages. Connections did not contest the protest and DUKE OF BOURBON was disqualified by Stewards.
