WALTZING WITH MIKI - when questioned regarding the improved performance Trainer/Driver B Butcher stated the gelding had been racing without much luck in recent starts and had enjoyed a good run in tonight's event.
WALTZING WITH MIKI - lay in and contacted track markers with one marker being dislodged near the 1250m. Hampered by a weakening runner passing the 400m and paced roughly for several strides. Held up until early in the run home.
MICK KONSTANTIN - commenced to weaken near the 800m. A post-race veterinary examination no abnormality. When questioned Trainer/Driver J Abernethy could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance and advised that he would have blood taken from the gelding in the coming days and would advise Stewards of the results.
MICK KONSTANTIN - lay inwards striking track markers near the 800m. Struck track markers final bend. Driver J Abernethy was issued a warning. Shifted out near the 180m briefly placing an outside runner in restricted room. Raced greenly throughout the run home. Stewards spoke with Mr Abernethy regarding his apparent lack of control throughout the run home. Mr Abernethy advised the gelding was still inexperienced, had raced greenly on several occasions in the running, and particularly in the run home, and he will be considering gear changes. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding. Notwithstanding this Stewards reminded Mr Abernethy of his obligations to exercise greater control of his horse in the future.
MICK KONSTANTIN - when questioned regarding the performance Trainer/Driver J Abernethy stated that the gelding felt lethargic early and could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
PRINCESS OF SAVOY - broke near the 1300m with trailing runners having to take evasive action and lost all chance. An investigation was held into this incident and it was established that PRINCESS OF SAVOY had galloped after contacting the sulky wheel of WORDS with its near hind when both runners shifted ground marginally. Given the circumstances Stewards took the matter no further.
WORDS - over-raced middle stages when leading. Shifted outwards rounding the final turn and then again passing the 100m hampering outside runners. Stewards lodged a protest under Rule 869A(2) against 1st placing being awarded to WORDS (Junior Driver E Johnson assisted by J Abernethy) on the grounds of alleged interference to the outside runners 2nd placed MUCHACHO (Junior Driver H Orange assisted by Trainer Z Meredith), 3rd placed BARBAROSSA (Junior Driver B Wilkins assisted by B Butcher) and 4th placed MELODY BANNER (Junior Driver J Dunn assisted by B Hackett). After viewing the replays and hearing the relative evidence Stewards did not proceed with the protest in relation to the interference to the 3rd and 4th placed runners after it was established that they would not have beaten the winner. The Adjudicative Committee upheld the protest in relation to interference to the 2nd placed MUCHACHO and relegated WORDS to 2nd placing behind that runner. Stewards took no action against Driver E Johnson as they were satisfied that she had fulfilled her obligations in relation to the corrective action she took throughout the run home. A warning was placed on the mare's racing manners.
WORDS - over-raced middle stages when leading. Junior driver E Johnson (assisted by driver M White) admitted a charge under Rule 869(3)(b) in that she drove carelessly when shifting inwards entering the first bend checking TWO JULES which broke losing ground, hampering trailing runners . After viewing the replays and hearing penalty submissions the Adjudicate Committee imposed a fine of $400.

MIDFREW LUCRE - Driver J Kriechbaumer was issued a warning for allowing his gelding to shift outwards rounding the final turn when activating gear which forced TUGAWAR wider on the track. Authorization of 1st placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied that there were insufficient grounds for a protest with connections of TUGAWAR also electing not to protest when given the opportunity.
CYCLONE REBEL - held up final bend and throughout the run home. When questioned regarding his tactics during the middle stages Driver M White advised that after having worked hard to secure the lead near the 1400m he felt it was his best option to take a trail on the improving BARBAROSSA near the 1000m rather than risk receiving more pressure as he expected that runner to maintain the lead as it had performed well when driven aggressively prior. Mr White further stated that CYCLONE REBEL was racing with a notified gear change of the removal of blinds after having trialled earlier in the week but did not feel as sharp when warming up and during tonight's event in what was the gelding's first race in a month. After considering Mr White's explanation Stewards were satisfied his decision to surrender the lead was not unreasonable given the circumstances and took the matter no further.
ADJOURNMENT - paced roughly approaching the 200m after having been shifted wider on the track by BARBAROSSA hampering outside runners. Weakened in the run home.
BARBAROSSA - over-raced middle stages. Paced roughly near the 800m when over-racing and was then awkwardly placed to the sulky of KINGS WATCH before breaking losing ground.
DOUBLE PARKED - required assistance from an attendant when becoming fractious prior to commencing the score up. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier manners. Raced in restricted room early in the run home.
ULTIMATE RACY GIRL - Driver Z Butcher was warned for using his whip with his foot free of the footrest near the 300m. Mr Butcher reported that he had dropped his whip late in the run home. When questioned regarding the mare's performance Mr Butcher advised that after racing three wide with cover from the 600m he had been unable to make up ground with the fast closing sectional.
ULTIMATE RACY GIRL - raced wide early and middle stages. When questioned regarding the performance Driver Z Butcher stated that the early effort to reach the parked position approaching the 1000m had taken its toll.
IRON BRIGADE - broke at the start losing ground. Hampered leaving the back straight the final time when attempting to follow ROUGH AND READY when that runner commenced to improve and then lost ground when further hampered by the weakening CLAUDE.
BETTOR REACTION - was strongly restrained near the 1200m after improving to the inside of RAGNAR LOTHBROK when Driver N Chilcott activated the hopple shorteners. Lay in and raced over track markers rounding the final turn.
For R35 to R76 3-year-old trotters. Preferential Barrier Draw Based on: Sex (fillies drawn inside colts and geldings) then Rating then Winning Stakes using the track grid. Refer Series Conditions.
CYCLONE SALA - broke at the start losing ground. Hampered by a breaking runner rounding the first turn. Lay in and contacted a track marker near the 250m.
CYCLONE SALA - slow early. Lay in and trotted roughly approaching the 800m losing ground. Continued to lay in on various occasions striking a track marker in the run home. When questioned driver J Abernethy confirmed that the filly had failed to handle the bends and will be recommending a gear change.
CYCLONE SALA - broke racing into the first bend hampering trailing runners losing all chance. Placed on the unruly for future standing starts at the request of trainer A Matthews.
EYE SEE YOU - shifted out in the run home hampering an outside runner. Authorisation of the gelding's first placing was withheld until Driver J Abernethy (CYCLONE SALA) (2nd placing) confirmed that his chances had not been affected. Driver M White was warned to make a greater effort to maintain a straight course in the run home in future.

MEMORIES - swung sideways as the tapes were released hampering HAPPY HILL. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Driver T Macfarlane reported that he did not activate the removable deafeners due to having the field covered.
HILLBILLY - had to be steadied near the 1700m when there was an easing of the pace. Commenced to over-race near the 1400m before being taken out three wide and raced wide without cover thereafter.
HILLBILLY - pulled hard in the score up. Raced fiercely early and middle stages before being sent forward to lead approaching the 1000m. Lay in late in the run home placing an inside runner in restricted room.
HILLBILLY - raced wide early before obtaining a position in the running line towards the rear. When questioned regarding the performance Driver E Johnson advised that she got too far back after restraining from a wide barrier and then had difficulty improving wide rounding the final bend.
HILLBILLY - Driver M McKendry admitted charges under Rule 869(3)(b) in that he drove carelessly near the 2300m when striking the wheel of ILLICIT LOVE which punctured and also near the 2250m when striking the wheel of FINAL APPROACH which punctured. After viewing the replays and hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr McKendry's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing tonight up to and including the 29 May 2025 (8 days).
HILLBILLY - over-raced entering the back straight the final time before shifting an outside runner out to secure a position in the running line near the 650m.
FEARLESS - pre-race warmed. Broke at the start losing ground. Broke again passing the 2200m losing further ground. Trotted roughly in the middle stages when over-racing. Broke again on a further occasion near the 40m and failed to settle, being lapped on by CRACKERJACK and SANS AU REVOIR. Stewards lodged a protest under Rule 870(5) against this runner's 3rd placing alleging the gelding was lapped on at the finish line. After viewing replays connections did not contest the protest and FEARLESS was relegated to 5th placing by the Stewards. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners.
HIGHER POWER - driver S Phelan defended a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) alleging that he drove carelessly when shifting ground inwards near the 800m resulting in ILLICIT LOVE (C Hackett) being checked and losing ground. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from both drivers and Stewards, the Adjudicative Committee found the charge proved and after hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Mr Phelan's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing on 28 November up to and including 12 December 2025 (3 days).
HIGHER POWER - raced wide early. Shifted outwards in the run home. Driver B Purdon was advised to make a greater effort to maintain a straight course in the run home. Driver B Purdon advised that he did not activate the removable deafeners due to the gelding trotting roughly.
HIGHER POWER - broke shortly after the start losing considerable ground. Stood down to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one occasion from a mobile start prior to resuming. Hampered by a weakening runner final turn. Broke passing the 200m losing its chance. Co-Trainer S Phelan advised that the gelding would be turned out for a spell.
YOUNEVERKNOW - raced wide early. Broke near the 1900m losing ground. Authorisation of 4th placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation during the running.
YOUNEVERKNOW - checked by a breaking runner near the 300m. Returned to the stabling area with blood present in a nostril. A post-race veterinary examination and endoscopy confirmed a small amount of blood present in a nostril originating from a burst blood vessel with no other abnormalities detected.
ILLICIT LOVE - when questioned regarding the performance driver C Hackett advised that after being slow in the early stages the gelding had got too far back off its handicap and the race wasn't run to suit thereafter. Miss Hackett further advised that she was not overly disappointed with the performance.
ILLICIT LOVE - broke near the 1750m when racing to the inside of EYRE I WILL checking trailing runners and losing considerable ground. Stewards held an investigation into this incident and after hearing the relative evidence from Junior Driver C Hackett (ILLICIT LOVE) assisted by M Wallis, Driver S Abernethy (EYRE I WILL) and viewing the replays it was established that these runners had been contesting a position in the running line when racing on terms with neither driver being deemed to be at fault. Given the circumstances Stewards took the matter no further.
For R38 to R73 3-year-old pacers. Preferential Barrier Draw Based on: Sex (fillies drawn inside colts and geldings) then Rating then Winning Stakes using the track grid. Refer Series Conditions.
ARAFURA - checked when unable to avoid a fallen driver inside the 50m and broke as a result losing ground before finishing in 4th place and was lapped on by the 5th placed DEBBIE LINCOLN. Given that this runner had broken as a result of interference Stewards exercised their discretion under Rule 870(5) with not proceeding with a protest.

BIG HERB - lay in late in the run home. Authorisation of this runner's 1st placing was briefly withheld until it was established that the gelding had not contributed to NEW KID IN TOWN and TYSON locking wheels.
THE RASCAL - the murphy blind was removed prior to the start due to the colt failing to warm up favourably. Lay in and raced over a track marker near the 1250m. Authorisation of this runner's 3rd placing was withheld until Steward's viewed the replays and questioned Drivers P Ferguson (THE RASCAL) and M McKendry (BIG HERB) in relation to THE RASCAL contacting a track marker passing the 80m when looking for a run to the inside of BIG HERB. These two runners then locked wheels over the final 40m. After considering the matter Stewards were satisfied that THE RASCAL had not gained an advantage in this incident and gave all clear on the judge's placings. Mr Ferguson was issued a warning in relation to contacting the track marker.
BETTOR REACTION - was strongly restrained near the 1200m after improving to the inside of RAGNAR LOTHBROK when Driver N Chilcott activated the hopple shorteners. Lay in and raced over track markers rounding the final turn.
MARKETPLACE - when questioned regarding his tactics Driver C Ferguson advised that after having gone forward early he had been left without cover after GOT THE CHOCOLATES shifted to the marker line rounding the first turn so elected to restrain to the rear after the early effort. Mr Ferguson further stated that he then felt that his best option was to remain at the rear as he considered that the lead, which was being held by BETTORS ANVIL, would not have been available and that racing without cover on a wet track may have been to his detriment. He then added that he had followed THE JOLLY ROGER when that runner commenced to improve without cover from the 1200m before then shifting three wide to improve from the 500m but MARKETPLACE had felt rocky when not handling the final turn as well as he would have liked and believed that the gelding may still have won but for this. After considering the matter Mr Ferguson's comments were duly noted.
For 2-year-old trotters. Preferential Barrier Draw Based on: Sex (fillies drawn inside colts and geldings) then Winning Stakes using the track grid. Refer Series Conditions.

02/25 Auckland NON-WINNERS 2YO MOB. PACE 1700m (1) head 2-11
JOHNNY LINCOLN - raced fiercely middle stages. Hung inwards final bend when weakening. A warning was placed on the racing record of the colt.
JOHNNY LINCOLN - over-raced middle stages. Lay out rounding the turns and in particular the final turn losing ground. Held up over the concluding stages. When questioned Driver P Ferguson confirmed that he had encountered difficulty handling the turns but advised that he was satisfied with the performance given the colt was racing older horses.
GEORGIE BEST - broke near the 1200m after briefly locking sulky stays with an inside runner after both horses shifted ground and was taken up the track before settling. HAPPY HILL - when questioned with regard to his minimal vigour and failure to activate the removable deafeners in the home straight Co-Trainer/Driver B Hackett stated that the gelding was a twenty start maiden which had proved difficult in its previous racing when breaking for no apparent reason. He further explained that this runner had felt uneven in its gait when the tempo increased down the back straight the final time and had then been on the inside rein when laying out when attempting to use the passing lane in the run home placing him at a disadvantage. Mr Hackett also added that he had reined the horse up over the final stages and that the gelding would race in a fixed deafener hood for the immediate future. Stewards noted his comments.
GRACE N ELEGANCE - held up final bend contacting and puncturing the sulky tyre of PLAY FAST AND LOOSE. After taking into account Ms Moralde Sands explanation and her relative inexperience Stewards took the matter no further other than to note the circumstances.
