VALENTINA SHEVCHENKO - Trainer J Abernethy was issued a warning for presenting the mare to race without the notified blinds. Struck a track marker near the 1200m. Raced over several track markers final bend with one being dislodged. Driver J Abernethy was issued a $100 Minor Infringement Notice.

A false start was declared at the first attempt due to SHES ALL LEGS being reluctant to turn into line with VALENTINA SHEVCHENKO then lunging forward on to the 30m tape.

CYCLONE SALA - broke approaching the 250m when leading and was taken down to race inside the marker line to avoid trailing runners then settled passing the 180m. Steward's lodged a protest under Rule 869(7B) against this runner's 3rd placing alleging the mare had gained an advantage in this incident. After hearing the relative evidence and viewing the replays the Adjudicative Committee upheld the protest and CYCLONE SALA was relegated to 4th placing.

HILLBILLY - lay inwards racing down the back straight on the last occasion. Broke near the 500m after improving to the inside of EAGLE HANOVER (S Abernethy) and becoming awkwardly positioned between that runner and THE FOUR ACES (J Stormont), which was racing to its inside, losing all chance. Stewards investigated the circumstances and spoke with Drivers J Stormont, S Abernethy and Junior Driver E Johnson(HILLBILLY), (assisted by T Macfarlane). After considering the evidence, it was established that HILLBILLY had initially been entitled to shift to the inside of EAGLE HANOVER however shortly afterwards EAGLE HANOVER had commenced to hang inwards under pressure and shifted marginally down the track simultaneously as HAPPY HILL (B Hackett) which was racing to the inside of both runners shifted marginally up the track. with the matter being taken no further.

MEMORIES - Driver T Macfarlane was questioned regarding his apparent lack of vigour late in the run home. Mr Macfarlane stated that MEMORIES had trotted roughly on various stages during the running and in particular rounding the final turn and early stages of the home straight. He further stated that after activating the removable deafeners when attempting to improve in the passing lane that he had used the whip on at least six occasions and felt that the gelding was doing its best over the final stages. After considering the matter Stewards took no further action on this occasion other than to remind Mr Macfarlane of his obligations to drive in such a manner that leaves no room for query in the future.
