REGAL SIERRA - broke at the start losing ground. Held up final bend and early in the run home. Broke near the 175m after being crowded by WAIHEMO HANNAH losing all chance. Stewards questioned drivers B Orange (REGAL SIERRA) and G O'Reilly (WAIHEMO HANNAH) regarding this incident. After viewing the replays and hearing from both drivers it was established that WAIHEMO HANNAH had hung outwards despite the efforts of Mr O'Reilly and made contact with REGAL SIERRA resulting in that horse breaking. After considering the matter, Stewards placed a warning on the racing record of WAIHEMO HANNAH.

SUNNY LOUIS - had to be restrained when forced to race in the passing lane for a distance passing the 2000m. GEORGE ELIOT - when questioned regarding the performance trainer/driver T Grant advised that he elected to follow AIGUILLE near the 800m in a three wide position however this runner had not made ground as expected forcing him to race wider on the track. Mr Grant added that he was pleased with the manner in which the mare had finished off the race.

GEORGE ELIOT - broke at the start losing ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Stewards questioned driver T Grant regarding his apparent lack of vigour in the run home and after hearing his explanation Stewards issued a charge under Rule 868(2) alleging that he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible finishing place by failing to show sufficient vigour in the run home. Mr Grant advised he would be defending the charge and the hearing was adjourned sine die by the Adjudicative Committee.

A Request for a Ruling was lodged with the Adjudicative Committee by Stewards to determine whether GEORGE ELIOT had been denied a fair start. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from the Starter, Stewards and Mr Grant, the Adjudicative Committee declared GEORGE ELIOT to be a runner after it had broken as a result of its own manners. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the filly.
