RUSH - when questioned regarding the manner in which he drove in the run home driver G Smith advised the mare had trotted roughly when being shifted inwards to utilise the passing lane and continued to trot unevenly for the remainder of the run home. Mr Smith added that given the horse's previous tendency to break in the run home, he was reluctant to place the horse under any additional pressure. After reviewing the racing record of the mare and considering Mr Smith's explanation, Stewards took the matter no further other than to remind him that he must not drive in a manner which leaves him open to query.

RUSH - over-raced middle stages. Stewards questioned driver G Smith regarding his apparent lack of vigour in the run home. Mr Smith explained the mare had caused him difficulty after shifting into the passing lane when over-racing and then trotting roughly resulting in him having to steady the horse. Mr Smith further added the mare had again trotted roughly inside the final 50m and was unable to be driven out fully. After viewing the replays and hearing Mr Smith's explanation Stewards took the matter no further.

Authorisation of placings was withheld until Stewards had spoken to driver J Curtin to ascertain whether he had been denied a fair start. Mr Curtin advised although the horse had been hampered after leaving the pre-race formation it had broken as a result of its own manners and he elected not to proceed with the matter. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
