Stewards lodged a protest under Rule 870(5) against the 4th placing of SONSOFTHEMERCH. After viewing the replays the connections did not contest the protest and SONSOFTHEMERCH was relegated to 5th placing by Stewards. Driver D Butcher advised that the gelding cast the near fore shoe during the running.

Commenced to weaken near the 1100m before shifting up the track and was not persevered with. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing performance.

Driver L Chin admitted a charge under Rule 869(3)(b) in that he drove carelessly in this incident. After hearing submissions on penalty the Adjudicative Committee suspended Dr Chin's Driver's licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 9 February 2024 (3 days).
