A false start was declared when MAUI backed away prior to the start interfering with a trailing runner. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Driver D McCormick elected to start from his allocated position for the restart. Placed on the unruly for future standing starts.

Authorisation of 2nd placing was withheld until Stewards confirmed the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation in the early stages. Driver D McCormick was warned for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the run home.

MAJESTIC LOVE - weakened final bend. When asked to comment on the performance driver K Bublitz advised he was not disappointed with the effort as the mare had worked hard on a fast pace and this had taken its toll. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

MISS JESSICA - over-raced through the middle stages causing driver T Robertson extreme difficulties. When spoken to regarding this Mr Robertson advised that he adopted different tactics with his mare today which was to trail DONT ASK from the start however once the early speed eased near the 1900m MISS JESSICA began to over-race from this point, adding he was unable to hold his horse due to it pulling hard and also the reins slipping through his gloves. At one stage he even had the whip in his mouth to try and get more purchase in a further effort to restrain the mare. Mr Robertson added that when racing fiercely near the 1500m MISS JESSICA saw a gap to the inside of DONT ASK and made contact with the inside sulky wheel of that runner. Mr Robertson further stated that approaching the 1150m he shifted out from the trailing position forcing MAJESTIC LOVE wider on the track, explaining that he did this for safety reasons to get his mare into space in the belief that she would then relax. Stewards noted Mr Robertson's comments. Notwithstanding this a warning was placed on the racing record of the mare.

LOVE N THE PORT - broke passing the 70m and continued on in a break across the finish line. Stewards lodged a protest against 5th placing being awarded under Rule 870(3) and the Breaking Horses Regulation alleging the gelding had broken in excess of 50m inside the final 200m. After viewing the replays driver M Williamson did not contest the protest and LOVE N THE PORT was disqualified by the Stewards.

LOVE N THE PORT - shifted ground inwards near the 150m placing MIDNIGHT DASH in restricted room which had to be steadied. Driver M Williamson defended a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) alleging he drove carelessly when shifting ground with the hearing being adjourned sine die by the Adjudicative Committee.
