HIGH ENERGY - when questioned regarding the tactics she adopted Driver N Rasmussen stated that after having restrained to the rear from her outside barrier draw that she had commenced to improve three wide near the 1600m but THE IVY LEAGUE and SHEZ BELLA shifted out forward of her before then returning to the running line. Ms Rasmussen then explained that she had again commenced to improve from the 900m but the filly had proved difficult when laying in so she had then looked to take a trail into the race on the back of THE IVY LEAGUE, however this did not eventuate as she had hoped due to SHEZ BELLA again shifting out in front of THE IVY LEAGUE and not progressing forward as the tempo increased. She further advised that she had then looked to improve to the inside of THE IVY LEAGUE early in the run home but felt that she would of been held up for clear running so eased her filly before improving to the outside but was then hampered when that runner lay out under pressure and shifted up the track. Ms Rasmussen also added that she would be recommending possible gear changes following the performance in what was the filly's first race right handed.

Stewards questioned co-trainer M Purdon after it was reported in some media outlets that HIGH ENERGY had a notifiable surgery undertaken prior to racing on 25 November which had not been notified to Harness Racing New Zealand as per the Notifiable Surgeries and Procedures Regulation. After hearing from Mr Purdon, Stewards adjourned the matter.

GOLD BULLION - when questioned regarding the performance trainer/driver B Butt was unable to provide any explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a high heart rate and slow recovery. Stewards will follow up with Mr Butt in the coming days.

GOLD BULLION - Stewards investigated a possible breach of the Push Out Rule near the 1500m when GOLD BULLION shifted ground outwards forcing HAROLD SMITH wider on the track momentarily. After viewing the films Stewards were satisfied that driver B Butt had commenced his outwards movement prior to HAROLD SMITH reaching his sulky wheel and no further action was required.

BELLATRIX - broke near the 900m after having been crossed by SHEZ BELLA, which improved to the parked position, checking trailing runners and lost all chance. An investigation was held into this incident. After hearing from Drivers A Matthews (BELLATRIX), D Ferguson (SHEZ BELLA) and viewing the replays the evidence proved to be inconclusive with no further action being taken other than to note the circumstances.

Authorisation of 3rd placing was withheld until Stewards had spoken to driver J Dunn (TI AMO BELLE) placed 5th, who advised his chances of beating THE IVY LEAGUE had not been affected and he did not wish to proceed with a protest. Accordingly, all placings were authorised. Mr Orange advised the horse had been hanging inwards causing him difficulty and a warning was placed on the racing record of the filly.
