Race 1   BLACKMORE VIRTUE & OWENS HANDICAP TROT
ALDEBARAN FLAME - broke shortly after the start losing ground. Authorisation of this runner's 4th placing was withheld until it was established that the mare had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation.
FLYING SCOTSMAN - broke shortly after the start and then again entering the front straight on the first occasion losing considerable ground. Broke on a further three occasions during the running. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners.
DIAMANT BLEU - trainer F Cooney was warned for failing to have mudguards fitted to his sulky. Broke at the start losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier manners. Weakened passing the 600m.
EMMA FROST - slow in the early stages. Broke entering the first turn losing considerable ground. Weakened final turn. A warning was placed on the mare's racing manners.
SUPERFAST NINJA - when questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance Driver Z Butcher stated that the mare was back in class in tonight's event and had enjoyed an economical run on the back of the leader throughout.
Race 2   DAILY FREIGHT MOBILE PACE
RONDA - driver M Pemberton reported that the deafeners failed to activate due to the release cord becoming entangled.
IDEAL KINGDOM - raced three wide early before being restrained to take up a position towards the rear.
WATCHIT - had to be steadied entering the first turn after becoming awkwardly placed to the sulky of MAJOR GRACE. Paced roughly near the 300m.
OHOKA CREED - paced roughly near the finishing line when being shifted wider by an inside runner.
Race 3   DAYAVEG HANDICAP TROT
CYCLONE KADABRAMELIA - broke near the 200m losing its chance.
CYCLONE LEBRON - stood on the mark before backing away hampering several 30m runners and lost all chance. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier manners.
SON OF A SUN - raced wide in the early stages. Driver M McKendry was warned for allowing the gelding to shift down into the passing lane over the final stages of the run home.
MY HOPE - broke shortly after the start losing considerable ground. Weakened passing the 600m.
CYBER ATTACK - slow in the early stages.
DRUM N BASS - hampered shortly after the start. Broke near the 1900m and trailed the field throughout. Driver/Co-Trainer B Hackett reported that the gelding cast the near fore shoe entering the first turn.
LOVE AND FAITH - hampered shortly after the start.
KEYSTONE COMET - broke shortly after the start but soon settled. Broke near the 1900m losing ground. Broke on a further occasion near the 450m losing all chance.
Race 4   NZ ONION CO. MOBILE PACE
FOUR KISSES - checked by a breaking runner near the 1450m losing several lengths.
MANNY - locked wheels briefly with MR CHIP near the 300m when being shifted wider. Driver S Phelan is to be spoken to in relation to using his whip free of the rein on one occasion near the 250m. An investigation was opened into the manner in which Mr Phelan used his whip over the final stages of the run home.
MR CHIP - locked wheels briefly with MANNY near the 300m.
RIVERBOY BEN - over-raced when three wide early stages before improving to the lead near the 1600m. Weakened final turn.
BERANI - paced roughly and broke near the 1450m checking a trailing runner but soon settled. Broke again rounding the final turn losing ground. A final warning was placed on this horse's racing manners.
Driver S Phelan (MANNY) was warned for using his whip with more than a wrist only flicking motion on several occasions late in the run home.
Race 5   PRIMOR PRODUCE HANDICAP TROT
BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY - lay in and dislodged a track marker near the 300m.
JASINOVA - driver L Chin was warned for allowing the mare to shift down into the passing lane in the run home.
GAZ MAN - broke at the start losing considerable ground.
SPECIAL WAY - broke passing the 1100m losing its chance.
ANDITOVER - broke near the 800m losing ground and then trotted roughly for the remainder of the event.
AFLYIN SPUR - hampered by a breaking runner near the 800m.
CALL ME TROUBLE - broke near the 2400m losing considerable ground.
Race 6   POWELL TRANSPORT MOBILE PACE
CASHLODO FLYBYE - paced roughly for a distance rounding the final turn losing ground.
SIMPLY SAM - slow early stages. Held up for clear running throughout the home straight. Driver M McKendry was questioned as to the manner in which he drove when electing to shift down off the back of HARDER THAN DIAMONDS rounding the final turn to look for an inside run that did not eventuate. After taking initial evidence from Mr McKendry the matter was adjourned sine die. A post-race veterinary examination of the colt detected no obvious abnormality.
ZARIAS - held up final turn and throughout the home straight.
MIMI E COCO - over-raced early and middle stages when outside the leader.
The track was downgraded to Slushy following this event.
Driver M McKendry (SIMPLY SAM) was issued with a charge under Rule 868(2) on the grounds that he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure his horse was given full opportunity to win the race or to obtain the best possible position and/or finishing place by electing to shift down off the back of HARDER THAN DIAMONDS (T Mitchell) rounding the home turn to attempt to secure a run which did not eventuate resulting in SIMPLY SAM being held up throughout the home straight to finish in 7th place beaten 2.8 lengths. Mr McKendry admitted the charge and the matter was adjourned to a date, time and venue to be confirmed.
The adjourned enquiry to consider the charge under Rule 868(2) against Driver M McKendry (SIMPLY SAM) was reconvened prior to tonight's meeting. Mr McKendry elected to change his guilty plea and defended the charge. After hearing the relative evidence and reviewing the replays the Adjudicative Committee upheld the charge and suspended Mr McKendry's Driver's Licence up to and including 21 July 2022 (3 days).
Race 7   THE ALEX BAR & EATERY SOUTH OF THE BOMBAYS 2022 MOBILE PACE
VOODOO PRINCE - lay in at various stages and in particular passing the 1200m having to be corrected. Lost ground on the body of the field racing down the back straight the final time before recovering rounding the final turn. Continued to lay in throughout the run home.
NELSON'S BOY - broke entering the first turn hampering trailing runners and lost considerable ground. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners. Weakened from the 500m.
PIIKI WHARA - commenced to give ground near the 800m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality. Stewards will follow up with connections regarding the gelding's performance in the coming days.
RIVERMAN SAM - hampered by a breaking runner entering the first turn.
BROOKIES JAFFA - hampered by a breaking runner entering the first turn.
CLAUDE - hampered by a breaking runner entering the first turn.
