LOCHART SHARD - over-raced near the 1200 metres with the chin rest coming adrift. Hung inwards on each of the bends. Weakened in the early stages of the run home. Stewards questioned driver J Cox regarding the manner he drove in the early stages as to whether he could have been more vigorous in his efforts to take up a position trailing WILLOW BAY which would have prevented the stablemate CYRUS shifting inwards ahead of him. Mr Cox explained that he believed due to the high early speed in the race he had lost that position and was reluctant to further pressure his colt after it started to hang inwards approaching the bend. Accordingly no further action was required.
WILLOW BAY - over-raced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover. Paced roughly over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
CYRUS - driver M Purdon was spoken to regarding using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the early stages of the run home.

JAZELLE - Stewards questioned driver J Morrison regarding the manner he conducted an outwards shift near the 450 metres which caused OFF THE EDGE to race roughly. Mr Morrison explained that he believed he had an advantage over OFF THE EDGE at the time and so felt he was able to improve his runner outwards. Stewards cautioned Mr Morrison for the abrupt manner in which he shifted ground and also for failing to ensure outside runners could accommodate this manoeuvre.
OFF THE EDGE - hampered final bend and raced roughly. Driver G O'Reilly was questioned regarding the manner he drove during this incident where he had attempted to hold his position despite losing his advantage over the shifting runner (JAZELLE). Mr O'Reilly explained that he had briefly attempted to remain in that position due to the momentum the three wide line had however relented once he realised it was no longer sustainable.
