Driver R Holmes (CONQUER ME) was fined $400 for using his whip free of the rein in the middle stages of the home straight.
Stewards concluded an investigation into a matter regarding SENSE OF OCCASION sustaining a punctured sulky tyre in the early stages before being retired from the race near the 1300 metres after the tube wrapped around the axle of its sulky. After questioning drivers G Smith (SENSE OF OCCASION) and J Young-Grant (PETE'S DASH) and viewing the replays, it was established that SENSE OF OCCASION had shifted outwards marginally approaching the first bend with that runner's sulky wheel making contact with the front leg of PETE'S DASH which had been maintaining its position in the three wide line. Stewards were unable to apportion sole blame to either horse or driver and took the matter no further other than to note the circumstances.
Driver J Young-Grant (PETE'S DASH) was issued with a warning for failing to remain on course for the required time following the race.

CHEEKY MONKEY - weakened final bend.
MOMENT OF KAOS - when questioned regarding her decision not to improve her position prior to the 500 metres driver J Young-Grant reported the solid tempo of the race meant the gelding although racing with cover had to chase the leader throughout, adding the horse had raced best when saved for one run as the gelding only possessed a short sprint in its previous starts. Mrs Young-Grant added that improving any earlier in the race in her opinion would have been detrimental to the horse's chances to finish the race off strongly over the concluding stages.
MOONLIGHT ANGEL - slow in the early stages before weakening from the 1100 metres. Stood down pending one satisfactory trial.
JAY BEE AND LOU - trotted roughly through the middle stages.

Driver F Phelan (REFINE) defended a charge under Rule 869(4) alleging that he failed to concede his position near the 500 metres resulting in his horse breaking. After viewing the films and hearing evidence from Stewards and drivers F Phelan and N Munro, the JCA found the charge proved. After hearing penalty submissions, the JCA suspended Mr Phelan's driver's licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 23 August 2021 (3 months).

BEACH BALL - Stewards questioned driver R Holmes regarding the tactics he adopted near the 1600 metres when electing not to shift ground inwards to obtain the trail behind the leader TIDE AND TIME when an opportunity existed. Mr Holmes advised that his driving instructions were to ensure he allowed his horse to race in the open as the horse lacked a sharp sprint at this stage of its career and was better suited maintaining an even speed as it was one-paced. Mr Holmes added that if he had taken up the trailing position at this stage of the race he felt REPUBLICAN PARTY, which had unsuccessfully contested the lead rounding the first bend, would continue with its effort to find the front which would have left him to race three back on the marker line in a unsuitable position. After considering the matter, Stewards were satisfied that Mr Holmes' tactics were not unreasonable in the circumstances and took the matter no further.

Hung inwards through the home straight causing driver S Ottley some difficulty, Broke over the concluding stages. Trainer M Jones did not contest the protest and MICHELLE was relegated to 5th placing by the JCA.
