Race Comments

Race 1   THE ALEX BAR & EATERY MOBILE PACE
BLITZEMBYE - broke at the start and settled at the rear. A warning was placed on the gelding's mobile barrier manners. Held up throughout the run home.
LAST TANGO IN HEAVEN - lay in during the score up and was back marginally at the start. Tended to lay in at various stages when racing outside the leader and in particular rounding the final turn.
RAVEN BANNER - checked near the 40 metres and paced roughly when contacted by HOT AND TREACHEROUS. Driver J Dickie was questioned prior to all clear being given and confirmed that he would not have beaten HOT AND TREACHEROUS with no further action being deemed necessary.
HOT AND TREACHEROUS - lay in approaching the 50 metre mark and raced wheel to wheel with RAVEN BANNER before shifting in abruptly once the wheels cleared checking that runner inside the 40 metres. Stewards were satisfied that blame could not be attributed to Driver M McKendry and no further action was taken other than to note the circumstances.
Race 2   GARRARDS HORSE & HOUND PUKEKOHE HANDICAP TROT
I SEE FIRE - broke near the 80 metres after Driver T Herlihy activated the deafeners and lost all chance.
MAJESTIC HANOVER - broke passing the 1800 metres and settled at the rear. Broke again passing the 300 metres losing its chance.
GAZ MAN - raced wide early. Held up passing the 150 metres before being hampered by the breaking I SEE FIRE.
THE HULK - weakened from the 500 metres.
Race 3   NZ AMATEUR DRIVERS CHAMPIONSHIP HEAT 2 MOB PACE
COMIC BOOK HERO - raced three wide early.
FRANKIE JONES - Driver A Fitzgerald reported that he had elected not to activate the hopple shorteners during the event due to the gelding pacing well with the pins only up several holes.
HAPPY PLACE - lay in near the 300 metres when attempting to improve wide. Driver S Wigg is to be questioned regarding her decision to shift down to the marker line near the 1000 metres with the gelding then being held up for some distance before being able to shift out to obtain clear running near the 500 metres.
KOWHAI PARK - underwent a veterinary examination after having raced at the Cambridge meeting last evening and was cleared to start. Raced three wide early and middle stages before crossing to race outside the leader near the 1200 metres. Driver F Phelan was questioned in relation to the manner in which he drove approaching the winning post to receive the bell when after having raced wide over the early and middle stages he then elected to press forward in attempt to obtain the lead, which was being held by FRANKIE JONES. Mr Phelan stated that he had been advised by Trainer D Butcher that KOWHAI PARK was best suited rolling along as there had been issues previously when the gelding had flipped its palate when being restrained so he elected to continue forward on what had been a moderate tempo but had then desisted with the challenge once Driver A Fitzgerald (FRANKIE JONES) made it clear that he intended to hold the lead. Mr Phelan also advised that he had not turned the whip as KOWHAI PARK was doing its best when responding to being driven out with the reins.
PRODIGAL PETE - underwent a veterinary examination after having raced at the Cambridge Meeting last evening and was cleared to start.
THE BLUE BEAT - underwent a veterinary examination after having raced at the Cambridge meeting last evening and was cleared to start. Lay in near the 900 metres when attempting to improve three wide.

The start was delayed initially due to CYCLONE LEBRON becoming fractious before being further delayed when CHICAGO H breasted the barrier.
CYCLONE LEBRON - delayed the start when becoming fractious when called forward into line. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier manners.
DEBBIE LEE GALLEON - broke near the 500 metres losing its chance.
BUN IN THE OVEN - mixed its gait over the early stages then broke losing considerable ground before catching the field near the 1100 metres. Weakened final turn.
ERROL D - broke passing the 1800 metres and was retired from the event.
Race 5   BRECKON FARMS MOBILE PACE
I'LLAVABUBBLES - raced keenly middle stages when trailing the leader.
SUNTAN - Trainer H Cullen was cautioned for presenting the filly without the notified blinds.
ARDEN'S HORIZON - disappointed for a run passing the 100 metres.
Race 6   METALCRAFT ROOFING MOBILE PACE
SHANLOU - Driver M McKendry encountered some difficulty activating gear rounding the final turn and contacted several marker pegs. When questioned regarding the performance Mr McKendry stated that the early effort to improve to the lead had taken its toll.
POLKA DELIGHT - when questioned regarding the performance Trainer/Driver T Herlihy stated that the filly had received every opportunity and only battled in the run home.
IMELDA MAY - Trainer K Marshall was cautioned for the late notification that this filly and stablemate WHAREWHITI, which were both first starters, would be racing with removable deafeners.
WHAREWHITI - broke at the start and settled at the rear. A warning was placed on the gelding's mobile barrier manners.
JOSHUA RICHARD - held up early final turn. Disappointed for a run to the inside of SHANLOU in the passing lane near the 100 metres. Driver P Ferguson advised that he did not activate the deafeners as a result.
I EXPECT BETTOR - paced roughly entering the first turn when racing to the inside of IMELDA MAY which shifted inwards. An enquiry was opened and adjourned into this incident due to Driver F Schumacher (IMELDA MAY) having left the course. A post race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had sustained superficial abrasions to the near hind which required treatment.
The adjourned inquiry was reconvened at tonight's meeting. Driver F Schumacher (IMELDA MAY) admitted a charge under Rule 869(3)(b) on the grounds of careless driving causing interference to I EXPECT BETTOR (A Poutama) entering the first turn. After hearing submissions on penalty the JCA suspended Mr Schumacher's Driver's licence up to and including the 18th June 2021 (3 days).
Race 7   HYDROFLOW TROT
MAJESTIC PRINCESS - lay in rounding the bends and in particular the final turn losing ground before running on to finish in 6th place beaten 6 lengths. When questioned regarding the performance Driver M McKendry confirmed that the filly had hung throughout the running giving him considerable difficulty.
MINNIE BOW TIQUE - raced in restricted room when improving along the passing lane in the middle stages of the run home.
HILL OF PEACE - broke at the start and settled at the rear. Broke near the 1900 metres losing considerable ground. Broke at the 800 metres when trailing the field.
ASTERIA LAVRA - broke near the 600 metres losing all chance.
MANCHESTER'S ECLIPSE - was well back from position when the barrier was released and trailed the field throughout. Declared a non runner under Rule 213(1)(j) on the grounds that the mare was denied a fair start.
Race 8   LINCOLN FARMS MOBILE PACE
STEEL THE SHOW - when questioned regarding his tactics during the middle stages, Driver P Ferguson stated that his instructions had been to lead from the pole draw and after having enjoyed an easy run in front he then elected to hold up when challenged by COPY THAT passing the 1300 metres before relenting and handing up to that runner approaching the 1000 metres. Mr Ferguson's comments were noted.
COPY THAT - restrained to the rear early. Commenced to improve forward passing the 1600 metres and had to work to obtain the lead from STEEL THE SHOW passing the 1000 metres before being run down into 2nd place beaten 0.7 of a length. When questioned regarding the performance Driver M McKendry stated that after restraining early in what was the entire's first race for three weeks he had then elected to improve forward passing the 1600 metres to attempt to find the lead but had been required to work for 300 metres to secure the front after Driver P Ferguson (STEEL THE SHOW) had initially resisted the challenge. Mr McKendry further stated that he had been pleased with the way COPY THAT had fought on when challenged in the run home and felt that the horse would derive benefit from the run. When questioned Trainer R Green stated that it had been decided to go back early from the outside draw as he had expected STEEL THE SHOW to lead with a view to then improving midrace. Mr Green further advised that he had been unable to trial COPY THAT leading into tonight's event given the lack of suitable opposition and had been required to hold a private workout with a galloping pacemaker instead which had not been ideal and as a result expected improvement from the run.
Race 9   IRT- YOUR HORSE OUR PASSION HANDICAP TROT
MONKEY SELFIE - broke briefly at the start losing several lengths.
KIMKAR DASH - held up throughout the home straight when unable to secure clear running.

Race 10   BUS TO THE JEWELS FROM ALEXANDRA PARK MOB PACE
ZARIAS - trailed the leader throughout before using the passing lane to challenge early in the run home but appeared to peak on its run to finish in 4th place beaten 1.1 lengths. BETTOR LISTEN - Co-Trainers B Purdon & S D Phelan were fined $100 under Rule 865(2) for presenting the gelding without the notified blinds, which were fixed prior to the start.
