Race Comments

Race 1   ON SITE NZMCA PARKING AT THE CR MOBILE PACE
RAPANUI - weakened passing the 400m and finished a considerable distance behind the field. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
PRIVATE EYE - lay in late in the score up. Trainer/Driver N Chilcott had some difficulty releasing the deafeners rounding the final bend and in consequence she dropped her foot from the sulky footrest on two occasions.
CARSE O FERN CULLY - over-raced early stages when being restrained to obtain cover. Commenced to over-race again passing the 1000m.
NORVIC ROCKSTAR - briefly held up early stages of the run home.
Race 2   MID WINTER XMAS TICKETS ON SALE NOW MOBILE TROT
AMERICAN MUSCLE - broke racing into the first bend losing ground. Trotted roughly through the middle stages. Broke again at the 250m.
ESCAPE THE PACE - broke at the 200m and was shifted wider on the track by its Driver to avoid trailing runners.
FAITH IN MANCHESTER - lay in during the score up and was back one length at dispatch.
VORONOV - broke at the start losing ground. Authorisation of this gelding's promoted 4th placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied that it had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation in the early stages.
QUIK BARBIE - broke near the 500m losing all chance. A warning was placed on the filly's racing record.
AHWEL - broke near the 100m and settled just before the finish line. A Protest was lodged against this runners 4th placing on the grounds that the gelding broke in excess of 50m inside the final 200m. Driver D Ferguson did not contest the Protest and AHWEL was disqualified from its placing by the JCA.
Race 3   CIVTEC HANDICAP TROT
THE LAST GAMBLE - tangled away and was slow to begin. Over-raced middle stages causing Driver L Whittaker some difficulty.
JASINOVA - held up for clear racing room in the run home.
TRAMPS LIKE US - broke at the start losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the gelding's barrier record. Raced three wide briefly near the 1100m after LEESA CASTLETON shifted outwards from the marker line. Stewards investigated a perceived breach of the Push Out Rule at this stage of the race however after viewing replays it was established that LEESA CASTLETON had commenced to shift outwards prior to TRAMPS LIKE US covering its sulky wheel. Accordingly, Stewards took the matter no further.
GRIFFINS HALL - raced wide early stages. Driver D Ferguson was warned for using his whip with more than a wrist only flicking motion in the home straight.
ALANA - the mare was treated for a small laceration to the right foreleg after cross-firing during the running.
CEPHEUS - lay in racing around the first bend.
LEESA CASTLETON - briefly hampered at the start. Over-raced middle stages.
Race 4   NZ AMATEUR DRIVERS CHAMPIONSHIP HEAT 1 MOB PACE
MIGHTY MONICA - lay in rounding the first bend dislodging a marker peg.
ROCKNROLL MAMA - Driver F Phelan reported that the mare had hung inwards throughout the run home.
MAURICE - raced three wide early before reaching the parked position at the 1600m. Shifted out rounding the final turn. Driver B Wilmott was warned to make a greater effort to prevent his runner from shifting wider on the track.
SILVER LADY - Driver C Wigg was warned for being back a length at dispatch.
THE BLUE BEAT - held up by a weakening runner rounding the final bend. Paced roughly near the 150m when contacting the sulky wheel of MAURICE. An investigation was held into this incident and it was established that THE BLUE BEAT had commenced to improve to the inside of MAURICE on straightening for the run home after that runner shifted outwards as MIGHTY MONICA simultaneously shifted out from the marker line resulting in Driver J Kriechbaumer having to steady THE BLUE BEAT. After considering the matter no further action was deemed necessary other than to remind the Drivers of their obligations when shifting ground.
STARRY STAR - over-raced early stages when being restrained.
ACE STRIKE - cleared from the Unruly for future mobiles.
Race 5   HARDWOOD BREEDING SYNDICATE MOBILE PACE
KOWHAI PARK - held up behind a weakening runner rounding the final bend.
THE SPORTSMAN - raced wide early stages. Inconvenienced by a weakening runner passing the 600m. Gave ground near the 300m.
BODRUM BOY - raced wide early stages. Weakened passing the 600m.
MAHIA - hampered by a weakening runner passing the 500m.
SATCHMO - over-raced middle stages.
RUN MASON RUN - raced wide from the 1200m. Weakened passing the 500m.
ROUGH AND READY - late scratching at 8.18am with a veterinary certificate provided.
HOORAY HENRY - improved wide at the 1250m and lay in on the bend before reaching the lead at the 1000m. Weakened final bend. Stewards will follow up the recovery of the gelding with Trainer D Butcher in the coming days.
HOORAY HENRY - Trainer D Butcher advised Stewards on 21 May that after racing on a very strong tempo the effort had taken its toll on the gelding over the final stages. Mr Butcher added that HOORAY HENRY will be sent for a spell.
Race 6   MITRE 10 MEGA CAMBRIDGE MOBILE PACE
MIKI MONTANA - raced wide early stages before being restrained into the running line passing the 1750m. Paced roughly for a few strides passing the 75m.
LETSGODANCING - briefly hampered by a weakening runner final bend. Paced roughly passing the 250m.
SLYS SHADOW - weakened final bend.
KACHING KACHING - the boring pole became detached and fell to the track passing the 50m. It was established that a spring clip had malfunctioned and come adrift from the saddle. Trainer T Macfarlane was found not to be at fault and no further action was deemed necessary.
TOODALOOLOU - raced wide early stages. Again raced wide from the 1100m before reaching the parked position near the 450m.
POWER OF SOUL - back from position by a length at dispatch. A warning was placed on the mare's barrier record. Raced erratically passing the 450m and hung badly. A warning was also placed on the mare's racing record.
Race 7   THE COW VETS MOBILE PACE
DOC HOLLIDAY - when spoken to regarding the improved performance Driver B Butcher reported that the gelding had benefited from a good draw and had received an economical run in what developed into a sit and sprint event.
NEW YORK MINUTE - briefly held up early stages of the run home.
Race 8   WOODLANDS STUD HANDICAP TROT
FIRA - weakened leaving the final bend.
GREY STOKE - slow to begin.
IVEGOTBILLS - when questioned regarding the improved performance Trainer N Chilcott reported that the gelding had been racing without any luck in its recent starts and was able to capitalise on a perfect run from a favourable barrier draw.
OUR GRACIE - when questioned regarding the improved performance Driver A Poutama reported that the mare had been working well and took advantage of a front row draw to set its own terms in front.
PRESIDENTIAL JEWEL - badly hampered by a weakening runner passing the 650m losing momentum.
AS FREE AS AIR - weakened badly passing the 700m after racing in the parked position. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards will follow up the recovery of the mare with Trainer R Paynter in the coming days.
RYDGEMONT SON - trotted roughly passing the 400m losing ground.
Trainer R Paynter advised Stewards on 27 May that AS FREE AS AIR has recovered well following its tough run at Cambridge last week and will continue with its current preparation.
Race 9   IRT HARNESS JEWELS GOLF DAY TICKETS ON SALE NOW MOBILE PACE
CLAUDIA SCHIFFER - inconvenienced by an inside runner near the 150m.
COMEDY ACT - weakened final bend.
IT'S A LAUGH - commenced to weaken final bend.
POCKET BOOK - held up early stages of the run home.
ROMANEE - inconvenienced by an easing of the pace along the marker line near the 1850m.
JACCKA COOPER - shifted up the track before being corrected by its Driver at the 150m briefly inconveniencing CLAUDIA SCHIFFER. Paced roughly over the final stages but settled before the finish line.
EMMI ROSE - briefly hampered by an easing of the pace along the marker line near the 1850m.
BLAKE - over-raced early and middle stages. Broke near the 1400m losing ground and again at the 650m losing all chance. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing record.
Race 10   SEE YOU AT THE JEWELS JUNE 6TH HANDICAP TROT
EIGHT MILES HIGH - broke at the start losing all chance.
SLY PUNTER - raced wide round the first bend. Weakened passing the 350m.
WYNBERG WATCH - tangled away. Lay in at various stages during the running. Shifted into the passing lane late in the run home despite the efforts of its Driver. When spoken to regarding the improved performance the connections advised that the gelding had been able to capitalise on a favourable run throughout with the tempo of the race suiting the horse.
SONSOFTHEMERCH - broke at the 1150m losing ground. Broke again near the 400m and was retired from the event. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing record.
KEYSTONE CAVALIER - broke near the 150m losing its chance. A final warning was placed on the gelding's racing record.
THANK YOU - trotted roughly final stages and could not be fully driven out.
