Race 1   ESSENCE MAGAZINE 2YO MOBILE TROT
MISS YO - held up by a weakening runner final bend and in the early stages of the run home. Broke passing the 200 metres before switching to a pace when being shifted wider on the track in search of clear racing room.
NIGHT WATCH - crowded racing into the first bend and had to be steadied. Weakened final bend.
TE RAPA - driver S Ottley was warned for the manner she drove racing into the first bend when crowding an inside runner.
KOWHAI SUNSET - back slightly at the start.
TORO STRIDE - broke in the score up losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the colt. Trotted roughly at various occasions during the running.
Race 2   PORT & EAGLE BREWPUB FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE
ROCKNIZZY RULZ - lay outwards in the early stages and paced roughly. Held up early stages of the run home.
SMART SHADOW - paced roughly through the middle stages. Weakened final bend. Driver J Simpson was warned for using his whip when out of contention.
MACH'S ELIMINATOR - over-raced middle stages. Lay outwards throughout the run home.
SOPHIE - over-raced middle stages.
CHEEKYGRIN - out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare. Weakened final bend.
Race 3   VALLANCE MACHINERY LTD TROT
MARTHA STUART - over-raced middle stages.
CREME DE LA CREME - broke near the 1400 metres hampering trailing runners and lost all chance.
SOUTH PARK - broke shortly after the start and continued in a break for a considerable distance losing all chance. A final warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
TEQUILA SUNSET - hampered by a breaking runner near the 1400 metres. Lay inwards on the final bend. Hung outwards in the run home despite the efforts of driver K Cameron and locked wheels with QUIK SHOT passing the 150 metres hampering a trailing runner.
OUR PEGASUS PEARL - hung inwards rounding the bends losing ground. Hampered by a breaking runner near the 1400 metres. Again hampered near the 150 metres.
QUIK SHOT - trainer J Harrington advised that the gelding has had its fetlocks injected since last racing. Locked wheels with TEQUILA SUNSET near the 150 metres when that runner hung outwards.
DD'S SUPER STUART - slow to begin. Hampered by a breaking runner near the 1400 metres.
Race 4   BALCAIRN STOCKFOODS MOBILE PACE
MORRISSEY - hung outwards in the home straight. Driver M Williamson reported the removable deafeners were not activated due to the cord breaking. This gear was inspected and found to be in previously good condition.
CRISTIANO BUCCINI - hung inwards leaving the final bend and struck several track markers.
DON'T QUOTE ME - hampered near the 200 metres.
COOPERS HAWK - paced roughly late in the run home. Driver R Close reported the gelding had raced greenly throughout. Authorisation of 1st placing was withheld until Stewards were satisfied the gelding was in the correct gait when its nose reached the finish line.
CONSPIRATOR - trainer P Young advised that the gelding has had its hocks injected since last racing. Raced wide early stages. Broke near the 200 metres and continued on in a break after the gelding's hind leg made contact with the wheel of HEY TONIGHT after that runner shifted ground outwards. Stewards questioned drivers J Young-Grant (CONSPIRATOR) and B Orange (HEY TONIGHT) regarding this incident. After considering their explanation and viewing the replays it was established that HEY TONIGHT had shifted ground outwards in an acceptable manner when having an advantage over CONSPIRATOR, however CONSPIRATOR had been slow to respond to Miss Young-Grant's attempts to concede her position. Stewards were unable to apportion blame to any one horse or driver and accordingly took the matter no further other than to note the circumstances.
ELIZA DAVOLTA - lay inwards throughout the run home.
ADHARA - when spoken to regarding the performance driver B Butt reported the mare had worked hard in the middle stages to obtain a forward position and had been unable to finish the race off as expected due to this. Driver B Butt was warned for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the early stages of the run home.
GOTTA C TINTIN - weakened from the 1200 metres and was retired from the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stood down pending a satisfactory trial.
OPAWA LOUIE - broke in the score up and was out of position at the start. Placed on the unruly for mobile starts. Raced wide early stages. Hung inwards final bend. Held up for clear racing room until late in the run home.
DR KANANGA - weakened final bend.
ADDO CARR - checked and broke near the 200 metres.
CORFU BROMAC - driver M Edmonds will be spoken to regarding using his whip free of the rein near the 600 metres.
HEY TONIGHT - held up final bend. Lay inwards in the home straight once obtaining clear racing room.
CONQUISTADOR - hampered near the 200 metres. Cleared from the unruly for mobile starts.
Driver M Edmonds (CORFU BROMAC) was warned for using his whip free of the rein near the 600 metres.
Race 5   LEITHFIELD BEACH PACE
PURE COURAGE - hung outwards racing into the first bend and made contact with YANKEE JAY which hung inwards simultaneously. Had some difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the home straight. Driver C Thornley reported the gelding had hung outwards throughout the running causing him difficulty.
MOSSDALE MAC - briefly crowded at the start.
KENNEDY - crowded shortly after the start and locked wheels with an outside runner for some distance. Raced wide in the early stages. Broke near the 1300 metres and again passing the 700 metres losing all chance. Stood down to complete one satisfactory trial.
DON'T WRITE ME OFF - crowded at the start and locked wheels with an inside runner for some distance. When spoken to regarding the performance driver R Close reported the gelding had become positioned further back than he had anticipated after losing several lengths at the start and had been unable to make up any significant ground due to the solid tempo of the race. Mr Close added that despite this he had still been slightly disappointed with the gelding's effort.
HEAVEN HELPUS - checked and broke at the start losing considerable ground.
VINCENT VEGA - shifted inwards abruptly at the start checking inside runners. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Driver T Chmiel advised he would be recommending gear changes prior to the horse resuming. Mr Chmiel was warned for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the early stages of the run home.
YANKEE JAY - hung inwards racing into the first bend despite the efforts of driver J Cox simultaneous to PURE COURAGE hanging outwards and made contact with the sulky stay of that runner resulting in YANKEE JAY pacing roughly and losing ground.
CAMLEIGH ROSE - paced roughly final bend.
MAXIMILIAN - trainer S Lock reported the gelding would be racing without front shoes. Broke briefly at the start.
Race 6   ASHLEY TROT
CLICQUOT - trotted roughly throughout the run home and was unable to be fully driven out.
GOOD YASELF - broke at the start losing all chance.
CHEEKY MONKEY - hung inwards final bend losing ground.
MOMENT OF KAOS - held up final bend.
ROYAL JESTER - paced at the start and had to be restrained into its correct gait. Again paced racing into the first bend before breaking and lost all chance.
MUZZ - weakened final bend.
GOOSE HEALY - trotted roughly in the home straight.
INQUIZITIVE MAN - trotted roughly in the early stages losing ground. Continued to trot roughly losing all chance. When spoken to regarding the performance driver B Weaver advised the gelding had raced lethargically throughout and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. A warning was placed on the racing performance of the gelding.
SAMANTHA BEE - hung inwards through the middle stages and trotted roughly. Weakened from the 600 metres. Again hung inwards throughout the run home.
JESPER FAST - broke at the start losing considerable ground.
Race 7   WAIKUKU BEACH HANDICAP PACE
CHANGEOVER JO - hung inwards rounding the first bend and struck several track markers. Again hung inwards final bend when weakening and struck several track markers. Driver J Herbert will be spoken to for the manner she drove prior to the start when completing an extra circle after being called in by the Starter to address the barrier strand.
POCKET CALL - driver L Dobbs admitted a charge in that he used his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the home straight and after viewing the films and hearing penalty submissions the JCA imposed a fine of $500. Mr Dobbs was also warned for failing to obey the Starter's instructions when electing to complete an extra circle after the field had been called in to address the barrier strand.
CHEAPCHEAP - broke at the start losing ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
HES FAST AND FURIOUS - fractious prior to the start causing a delay. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
TAS GIRL BROMAC - trainer J Harrington advised that the mare has had her fetlocks injected since last racing. The boring pole was removed prior to the start after warming up unfavourably. Held up final bend. Driver J Harrington was warned for using his whip free of the rein on one occasion in the early stages of the home straight.
LULU LE MANS - trainer D Jones was warned for presenting the mare with blinds instead of the notified sliding blinds. Broke at the start losing considerable ground. Held up for clear racing room leaving the final bend and in the early stages of the run home.
TERRIER - when spoken to regarding the improved performance the connections advised the horse had been working well leading into today's race and after receiving a favourable run throughout had not been surprised by the gelding's forward showing.
SKY VALE - broke at the start losing considerable ground. When spoken to regarding the performance driver B Orange advised he had been unable to improve his position due to the three wide line failing to progress forward resulting in him having to race very wide on the final bend. Mr Orange added that after considering the amount of ground the mare had lost after breaking at the start he was pleased with its overall performance.
Driver J Herbert (CHANGEOVER JO) was warned for failing to obey the Starter's instructions when electing to complete an extra circle after the field had been called in to address the barrier strand.
Race 8   SWANNANOA MOBILE PACE
PRECIOUS SARA - raced wide early stages.
MISTER MIGHTY - weakened final bend.
DONEGAL CARNBOUY - out of position at the start. Driver A Cameron was issued a warning. Raced wide until being restrained to the rear of the field near the 1100 metres.
KRYSTAL DELIGHT - driver B Hope was warned for using his whip continuously in the home straight.
Race 9   OHOKA HANDICAP TROT
IDEAL INVASION - broke at the start and continued in a break for a considerable distance. Weakened from the 600 metres.
THIS TIME GAMBLE - broke near the 1400 metres losing all chance.
SUNDONS FLYER - over-raced when leading through the middle stages. Hung outwards and trotted roughly in the home straight.
NAVARA - broke briefly at the start. Trotted roughly in the home straight.
PRINCE RANIER - weakened over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
SALVO - broke briefly shortly after the start.
Race 10   PINK RIBBON HIGH TEA-23 MAY AT RANGIORA HRC MOB PACE
KISS THE GIRLS - over-raced middle stages.
DEJA BLUE - driver M Cations was spoken to advisedly for using his whip free of the rein in the middle stages of the home straight.
A ROCKNROLL STAR - when spoken to regarding the performance driver G O'Reilly advised he was very disappointed with the effort and could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Stewards will follow up the recovery of the gelding in the coming days.
TERRY - held up final bend by the weakening JOURNO and made contact with the sulky wheel of that runner despite the efforts of driver R Close.
SCELTA UNO - raced wide early stages before reaching the parked position near the 1200 metres.
NERANO - trainer R Stuart advised that the gelding has had its knees injected since last racing. Had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the home straight.
JENABELLA - over-raced middle stages.
JOURNO - weakened final bend. Driver B Orange reported he sustained a punctured sulky tyre on the final bend.
A GUINNESS DANCE - paced roughly in the score up. Continued to pace roughly through the middle stages and lost ground near the 700 metres. Driver J Dunn reported the horse had resented the track kick back and he would be adding a nose flap to the horse's gear for future racing.
Trainer G O'Reilly advised Stewards on 16 May that A ROCKNROLL STAR is being treated for a lung infection.
