Race Comments

Race 1   PINK RIBBON HIGH TEA AT RANGIORA HRC 23 MAY TROT
Stewards stopped the race under Rule 211A(1) due to safety concerns after GIFT CARD fell free of interference near the 1800 metres and checked the following MURANO and TOM BRADY with drivers R Close, K Townley and G Smith being dislodged and MURANO escaping driverless and galloping a significant distance before being captured by the Clerk of the Course.
Due to the horses having raced more than 1000 metres before being able to be stopped, Stewards determined the race be abandoned acting under Rule 211A(3).
Due to the delay and having to wait for a replacement ambulance to arrive, the meeting was put back one race with Race 11 re-scheduled to start at 5.26pm.
THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT - broke after 150 metres losing ground.
TINTED STUART - broke at the start losing ground. Checked near the 1800 metres severely unbalancing driver M Heenan in the sulky.
SHOW THE WAY - broke shortly after the start losing all chance.
TOM BRADY - broke at the start losing ground. Checked by fallen runner near the 1800 metres with driver G Smith being dislodged. Mr Smith was examined by St John personnel and cleared to fulfill his remaining engagements.
MURANO - checked and fell near the 1800 metres with driver K Townley being dislodged and the horse escaping driverless and galloping a considerable distance before being captured by the Clerk of the Course. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious injuries. Mr Townley was examined by St John personnel and transported to Christchurch Hospital for further examination.
MUZZ - broke after 150 metres losing ground.
GIFT CARD - fell free of interference near the 1800 metres with driver R Close being dislodged. Mr Close reported the gelding had pulled a front shoe. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a wound to the right front knee and received treatment from the Veterinarian. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance and completing one satisfactory trial. Mr Close was examined by St John personnel and cleared to fulfill his remaining driving engagements.
Race 2   JD & EA PROPERTIES FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE
HEY TONIGHT - trainer B Ward was warned for being late to arrive on course.
ROYAL RUBY - lay out briefly near the 50 metres when weakening.
NIKKI NOTO - lay in throughout the run home.
GET BACK - raced wide early stages.
ROLLWITHIT - raced wide without cover throughout.
ACENTO - held up for clear racing room until near the 100 metres when driver R Holmes had to briefly steady the horse after attempting to improve into a marginal run near the 50 metres.
THE MORNING STAR - held up early stages of the run home.
HATTIE - raced wide with cover from the 1400 metres. When spoken to regarding the performance driver T Williams advised he was not overly disappointed with the filly's effort today.
BIG MAMA MORRIS - paced roughly late in the score up being in position at the start. Over-raced middle stages.
Race 3   CANTERBURY PRINT SERVICES MOBILE PACE
SPECIAL DREAM - a false start was declared when SPECIAL DREAM broke in the score up checking a runner on the second line. Driver J Curtin elected to remain in his barrier position for the re-start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Weakened from the 800 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
IDEAL GRACE - held up for clear racing room throughout the run home.
UNCHANGED MEMORY - held up middle stages of the run home.
FRANCO INDIE - paced roughly when improving wide from the 1200 metres. Driver T Williams advised the gelding had been striking its knees and he had not activated the removable deafeners due to having the field covered.
TALIESIN - checked by breaking runner in the score up with a false start declared.
OPAWA LOUIE - broke in the score up losing its chance. Out of position at the re-start. Driver K Cameron reported the gelding had been striking the wheel discs, A final warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
FAZE OF GLORY - raced wide early stages.
SHADOW AVEROSS - out of position at the re-start. Driver A Mugford was issued a warning. Weakened near the 600 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. A warning was placed on the racing performance of the mare.
Race 4   COUNTRY FEASTS MOBILE PACE
KRYSTAL DELIGHT - lay inwards early in the run home and again near the 50 metres and briefly locked wheel stays with ROCKNTOMMY RULZ.
NERANO - raced wide with cover from near the 1200 metres.
ROCKNTOMMY RULZ - lay out near the 50 metres and briefly locked wheel stays with KRYSTAL DELIGHT.
BETTOR GRUNTER - raced wide in the early stages before improving forward to lead at the 1200 metres.
KEY REACTOR - raced wide with cover from near the 1200 metres.
PAY ME VISA - raced wide around the first bend.
JOHN JAMES PRESTON - broke in the score up losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
STAMP DUTY(AUS) - raced wide without cover from the 1200 metres. Weakened near the 600 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer M House reported that the gelding will derive benefit from the run today.
ARCHMAN - paced roughly late in the score up and was back slightly at the start. Raced wide with cover from near the 1200 metres.
HUEGO BOS - weakened near the 400 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer M Smolenski was disappointed with the effort today and will be getting the gelding scoped in the coming days. Stewards will follow up with the results.
Race 5   PETER SMITH HANDICAP TROT
IDEAL INVASION - began awkwardly. Broke after 150 metres losing ground.
FULL OF HOPE - held up early stages of the run home.
BOYZ INVASION - raced wide early stages. Weakened near the 500 metres.
ANDOVERLOV - the boring pole came adrift near the 400 metres. Driver B Butt reported the gelding had been hanging in throughout.
THE PLAYER - when questioned regarding the performance driver J Dunn reported the gelding was unable to finish the race off after starting from a 30 metre handicap.
OVER THE LOVE - cleared from the unruly for standing starts.
Race 6   WAMAKARIRI BUSINESSES RANGIORA CLASSIC (MOBILE PACE)
The start was abandoned in the score up due to CRANBOURNE still having a lead rope attached.
PLUTONIUM LADY - lay inwards leaving the final bend making contact with a track marker.
SPANKEM - hung inwards in the early stages of the run home,
Race 7   KOTARE DOWNS RANGIORA 3YO STAKES (MOBILE PACE)
CORRAVALLY STAR - attempted to buck in the score up when in position behind the mobile and broke losing its chance and was retired from the race. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the colt.
PACE N PRIDE - raced wide early stages.
Race 8   GULLIVER & TYLER PACE
LOYALIST - over-raced middle stages. Hampered by a breaking runner near the 2100 metres.
SAINT WAITAKI - checked and had to be steadied near the 1000 metres.
MARK DUNNETT - broke near the 2100 metres hampering trailing runners and losing its chance. Subsequently retired from the race. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing record.
BOLZANO - held up final bend by a weakening runner.
SHADY RULER - raced wide into the first bend. Weakened final bend.
ADMIRABLE - raced wide without cover from the 1200 metres. Hampered near the 1000 metres.
LOVESOMEWHERE - broke near the 1050 metres checking trailing runners and losing its chance. The gelding was subsequently retired from the event. Stood down to complete one satisfactory trial.
LENNOX BROMAC - began awkwardly. Raced wide with cover from near the 1400 metres. Hampered and forced wider near the 1000 metres.
MAJOR COLLECT - held up early stages of the run home.
TAURUS - hampered near the 1000 metres.
SCELTA UNO - hampered by a breaking runner near the 2100 metres. Checked and broke briefly near the 1050 metres.
FROSTY RECEPTION - forced wider near the 900 metres due to a breaking runner.
CABALLE BEACH - weakened near the 500 metres.
EL SIRRAR - hampered near the 1000 metres.
Race 9   BETAVET IN CONJUCTION WITH RANGIORA EQUESTRIAN TROT
THIS TIME GAMBLE - broke at the start losing considerable ground.
TEQUILA SUNSET - broke briefly shortly after the start.
RED HARBOUR - broke at the start losing considerable ground. Placed on the unruly for standing starts at the request of the connections.
ROYAL DEL - forced wider and hampered near the 700 metres.
BRIGHT GLOW - broke at the start losing considerable ground.
TAKE AFTER ME - checked and broke near the 600 metres with a trailing runner being checked.
MARTHA STUART - hampered and forced wider near the 700 metres.
MAJESTIC ACTION - hampered and forced wider near the 700 metres.
JERRY GARCIA - placed in restricted room near the 1700 metres.
SAMANTHAS MOON - trotted roughly shortly after the start. Broke after 150 metres losing considerable ground.
ONE GUZ HALL - became awkwardly positioned behind ROSIE'S SON near the 1700 metres when there was an easing of the pace, then shifted inwards when not fully clear of JERRY GARCIA. Driver G O'Reilly was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. Hampered near the 700 metres. Broke near the 200 metres losing all chance.
ISLA ELSIE - raced wide around the first bend. Trotted roughly near the 800 metres and hung outwards near the 700 metres then broke hampering trailing runners. A warning was placed on the racing record of the mare. Cleared from the unruly for standing starts. Trainer R Todd advised the mare will be sent for a spell.
ROSIE'S SON - hampered near the 700 metres. Checked by a breaking runner near the 600 metres.
Race 10   TERROR TO LOVE AT PINELEA FARM MOBILE PACE
MOSAIC ART - hung inwards late in the score up and was slightly out of position at the start. Weakened from the 600 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
TAS GIRL BROMAC - over-raced middle stages. Held up for clear racing room until late in the run home.
SKY VALE - over-raced middle stages.
IMMER BESSER - hung out late in the score up and was slightly out of position at the start.
ELO LOUISE - trainer S Moore was issued a warning after presenting the mare with blinds which had not been notified. Broke late in the score up losing its chance. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
PASSION AND POWER - when questioned regarding the performance driver J Dunn advised he was disappointed with the effort and would have blood tests taken in the coming days. Stewards will follow up the results with connections.
Race 11   RANGIORA HRC 'RACING AGAIN ANZAC DAY' MOBILE PACE
CHEEZEL - held up final bend.
