Mr Barclay explained that his intention was to obtain cover racing into the first bend after his filly had been unable to possess its normal high gate speed when pacing roughly at the start, however he had been unable to shift inwards due to runners improving to his inside. Mr Barclay added that once being left to race three wide rounding the first bend he elected to improve his position forward as he was aware that BOARDING PASS had improved quickly to his outside and he felt his horse would be unsuited to racing parked. After considering his explanation, Stewards were satisfied the tactics he adopted were not unreasonable in the circumstances and accordingly took the matter no further.
BOARDING PASS - raced wide in the early stages. Weakened from the 400 metres. Stewards questioned Driver M Williamson regarding the tactics he adopted in the early stages. Mr Williamson explained that after racing wide into the first bend he elected to shift wider and improve his position forward as he was aware SASSY'S VC which he had been following had been restrained in search of cover. Mr Williamson added that once he had improved to the outside of SASSY'S VC rounding the first bend that runner had been urged forward quickly by its driver resulting in him being obliged to work hard in an attempt to clear SASSY'S VC and assume the lead in the back straight on the first occasion. Mr Williamson further added the filly in his opinion is best suited to racing on the pace. After considering Mr Williamson's explanation, Stewards were satisfied the tactics he adopted were not unreasonable in the circumstances and accordingly took the matter no further.
