Race 1   PGG WRIGHTSON FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE
PERTURBED - weakened from the 600 metres.
EMERALD ABBEY - paced roughly in the score-up.
LOOKOUT - lay inwards in the score-up and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the filly. Lay inwards throughout the home straight.
HONOUR BEFORE GLORY - badly held up by a tiring runner rounding the final bend losing considerable ground.
MIDNITETRAINTOGEORGA - weakened from the 500 metres.
HUNTING WEIGHT - held up late in the run home.
BETTASTAR - required farrier attention prior to the start resulting in a slight delay.
PRETTY AZZ - paced roughly racing into the first bend losing considerable ground. A final warning was placed on the racing record of the mare. Trainer B Mowbray advised he had made gear alterations in the lead up to today in an effort to help PRETTY AZZ race more tractably and it was now his intention to return the mare to the workouts or trials prior to racing next.
Race 2   BEACH ROAD HOLIDAY PARK MOBILE PACE
NOOSA BEACH - raced wide into the first bend.
WRECKING BALL - raced wide into the first bend.
WONTHAVTIME - raced wide into the first bend.
KASE - out of position at the start. Driver S Tomlinson was issued with a warning.
TOMMY WATERHOUSE - Driver K Barclay admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) in that she used her whip free of the rein in the home straight. After viewing replays and hearing penalty submissions the JCA imposed a fine of $200.
MACH QUILLAN - weakened rounding the final bend. When spoken to regarding the performance of the gelding Driver N Williamson expressed disappointment however could offer no explanation. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slightly elevated respiratory rate. Stewards will follow up with connections in the coming days.
ZACCY MAC - when asked to comment on the seemingly improved performance Trainer A Black advised that he had made some slight gear alterations since the debut run which the gelding had responded well to. Mr Black added that he had been pleased with the first up effort of ZACCY MAC and he did expect a forward showing today.
BELLE'S BOY - lay outwards in the score-up hampering trailing runners resulting in a false start being declared. Sent to the Unruly position for the re-start by Starter Mr Ward. Required attention to its bit prior to the re-start and was still being attended by a Starters Assistant as the mobile barrier moved away, being a distance off the body of the field as the start was effected. Following this race Stewards withheld the All Clear until they had the opportunity to speak with the Starters Assistant, Driver C Ferguson and view the footage of the start after which BELLE'S BOY was declared a non-runner. When spoken to regarding the manners of this gelding Trainer B Wallace advised he would make gear alterations in an attempt to improve the manners of BELLE'S BOY prior to racing next.
FRANCO JORDAN - pre-race warmed. Out of position at the start despite the efforts of Driver J Douglas.
Race 3   SHAW BUILDING LTD MOBILE PACE
FRANCO JUNE - when asked to comment on the seemingly improved performance Trainer R Wilson advised the gelding had backed up well from its previous run at Forbury on 27 January and had derived benefit from an inside draw and economical trip today.
CASSIUS BROMAC - hung outwards in the score-up. Held up rounding the final bend.
JAFFIE J - raced wide into the first bend. Improved three-wide without cover from the 1100 metres and raced wide thereafter. Lay inwards and paced roughly when weakening passing the 250 metres.
BETTORS HIGHLIGHT - held up rounding the final bend.
Race 4   FORKLIFTS NZ MOBILE PACE
KAGEE VC - weakened rounding the final bend.
THE OPTIMIST - raced wide rounding the first bend.
TONY THE PONY - lay outwards in the score-up and was out of position at the start despite the efforts of Driver B Orange. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
BAILEYS DIAMOND - tightened for room in the latter stages of the score-up and as a result was slightly out of position at the start. Following this race the All Clear was delayed until Stewards had the opportunity to speak with Driver E Barron who confirmed that although the mare had been placed in restricted room late in the score-up this had not materially affected her chances. All placings were duly authorised.
STRATOFORTRESS - lay outwards rounding the first bend. Weakened from the 600 metres.
Race 5   BRENDAN FRANKS FARRIER HANDICAP TROT
TOLKIEN - broke at the start. Again broke over the concluding stages.
GALLEONS FUTURE - slow to begin.
SAGE TROUBLE - broke at the start. Hung outwards through the middle stages.
MISS BAMBOOCHA - trotted roughly in the early stages.
MISSIE CASTLETON - held up rounding the final bend and for the majority of the run home only gaining clear racing room passing the 50 metres.
SEKKIE MONKEY - broke passing the 2200 metres losing all chance. A warning was placed on the racing record of the mare.
AFTERBURNER - broke at the start losing considerable ground.
Race 6   THANKS FRANCO HUNTINGTON/C HEYRICK AT HARCOUTS MOB PACE
I'M TROUBLE - broke passing the 300 metres hampering outside runners. A warning was placed on the racing manners of the gelding.
LILAC BECKY - held up in the middle stages of the run home.
TAIRLAW TOLL - required a replacement sulky resulting in a delay of 3 minutes 30 seconds. Raced wide rounding the first bend.
DUKE OF DUNDEE - Driver T Larsen was issued with a warning for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the home straight.
HAZER - forced wider by a breaking runner rounding the final bend.
MELTON MAFIA - forced wider by a breaking runner rounding the final bend.
Race 7   ASCOT PARK HOTEL INVERCARGILL CUP (HANDICAP PACE)
TANGO TARA - tangled away.
DEUS EX - arrived around at the start area with blood present in a nostril and following a Veterinary examination was declared a late scratching at 3.14pm. An endoscopic examination determined the horse was not a bleeder but connections were advised a Veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding racing next.
ROBYNS PLAYBOY - broke at the start losing some ground.
PEMBROOK PLAYBOY - shifted down the track into the Passing Lane when placed under pressure in the home straight. Driver N Williamson was warned he must leave the Passing Lane free for trailing runners. Driver N Williamson was also warned for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the home straight.
VINTAGE CHEDDAR - broke at the start.
HENRY HUBERT - began awkwardly. Paced roughly rounding the first bend.
Race 8   SHEET METALCRAFT MOBILE PACE
MACANDREW AVIATOR - over-raced in the middle stages.
CROESUS - hung inwards passing the 900 metres contacting track markers.
MUCHO MACHO MAN - hampered and forced wider on the track by a breaking runner rounding the final bend.
A TASTE OF HONEY - hampered and paced roughly rounding the final bend.
LOVE ON THE ROCKS - out of position at the start. Driver K Barclay was issued with a warning. Lay outwards and broke briefly rounding the final bend hampering a trailing runner. A warning was placed on the racing manners of the gelding.
Race 9   McKNIGHT & BROWN MOBILE PACE
HAMPTON - out of position at the start despite the efforts of driver S Tomlinson. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Paced roughly in the middle stages.
STYX SWEETIE - when asked to comment on the performance driver J Curtin could offer no tangible explanation.
KEEP ON DREAMING - raced greenly and was unwilling to be taken to the lead passing the 1700 metres. When asked to comment on this tendency driver M Williamson advised it was this gelding's first look at the track and it would gain benefit from further race day experience.
RAKARIPPA - raced wide rounding the first bend. Lay inwards rounding the bends during the race.
TAD LINCOLN - out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Improved three-wide with cover from the 1200 metres until the 900 metres then without cover thereafter before weakening rounding the final bend. Lost the right front shoe during the running and was found to be lame in a post-race Veterinary examination. Connections were advised a Veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding racing next.
