Routine alcohol testing of drivers was carried out prior to racing with horsemen B Butt and B Orange both providing results in excess of the permitted level. Both drivers were consequently stood down from their engagements. Information's were filed with the JCA and adjourned.

Race 1   JOHN McCABE'S MUSIC - LIVE AT 'THE MOT' TROT
HE'S A CASSANOVA - broke at the start losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
LINE A LOVE - held up for clear racing room in the early and middle stages of the home straight. Trotted roughly over the concluding stages.
CLASSIC CALL - broke at the start losing considerable ground. Broke again near the 200 metres. Treated by the Veterinarian after the race for a superficial abrasion to the off fore pastern.
MAJESTIC JAG - trotted roughly in the run home.
SILVERLININGS - trotted roughly throughout the run home and was unable to be fully driven out.
MAJESTICMITE - raced greenly near the 1700 metres when racing over the crossing and shifted up the track despite the efforts of Driver S Ottley. Lay outwards leaving the final bend briefly hampering an outside runner. Continued to lay outwards throughout the run home.
RILEY MOMENT - briefly hampered leaving the final bend.
BACARDI PRIDE - broke late in the run home.
ELLA OF MOT - broke when racing over the crossing near the 1700 metres. Broke again near the 500 metres losing all chance. The hind leg spreader broke on the mare while in a gallop with this gear being inspected and found to be in previously satisfactory condition.
READY I AM - lay inwards in the home straight. Driver P Wakelin was warned for using her whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the home straight.
Race 2   NZB AIRFREIGHT FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE
CARIBBEAN LILY - broke shortly after the start hampering trailing runners. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the filly. Weakened over the concluding stages. When spoken to regarding the performance Trainer K Barron reported that he was disappointed with the effort and that the filly was showing signs of muscle tie up. Mr Barron advised he would have blood tests taken from the filly in the coming days and would notify Stewards of the results.
HAITI FRANCO - inconvenienced shortly after the start. When spoken to regarding the performance Driver C Thornley could only advise the horse had been very disappointing and it was the stables intention to have blood tests taken from the mare in the coming days. Stewards will follow up the results with Trainer S McRae.
IDEAL GRACE - held up in the early and middle stages of the run home.
PHONE TAP - held up in the early and middle stages of the run home. Returned to the stabling area with blood present in one nostril. A post-race endoscopic examination revealed the horse not to be a bleeder.
HELLO ADELE - held up in the early stages of the run home. When spoken to regarding the improved performance Trainer P Beveridge advised that the mare had responded well to gear changes and had appreciated a favourable run throughout.
CHEAPCHEAP - broke near the 150 metres hampering trailing runners. A warning was placed on the racing record of the mare.
SOPHIE - inconvenienced shortly after the start. Raced fiercely for a distance passing the 1100 metres causing Driver J Morrison some difficulty.
WITH GRACE - the required Veterinary clearance was received. Inconvenienced shortly after the start. Driver J Dunn was issued with a warning for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the home straight.
DIXIE FLYER - held up early and middle stages of the run home.
IS HE WATCHING ME - had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the early stages of the run home. Hampered by a breaking runner near the 150 metres having to be steadied by Driver R May.
STELLA'S DELIGHT - over-raced early stages when being restrained to the rear of the field. Hampered by a breaking runner near the 150 metres.
Race 3   NZ SAFETY BLACKWOODS MOBILE PACE
SAGINAW - raced roughly near the 1200 metres causing an easing of the pace in the two wide line, resulting in trailing runners having to be steadied. Broke passing the 300 metres with a warning placed on the gelding's racing record.
CANARDLY REMEMBER - hampered near the 1200 metres.
RAFA NOVAK - raced keenly in the middle stages.
PLAYBOY PRINCE - hampered near the 1200 metres. Hampered by a breaking runner near the 250 metres.
CONQUER ME - when spoken to regarding the improved performance Trainer/Driver R Holmes could only advise that the horse had responded well to being freshened since disappointing at its last start and had appreciated a drop back in class.
WEE RING THE CHANGES - paced roughly shortly after the start having to be steadied towards the rear of the field. Hampered near the 1200 metres.
TAKEMYBREATHAWAY - hampered by a breaking runner near the 250 metres.
LYDIA - over-raced middle stages.
PROVISEUR - the required Veterinary clearance was received. Hampered near the 1200 metres. When spoken to regarding the improved performance Trainer I Court explained the horse had not done well on its recent trip to Nelson and proved disappointing there. Mr Court added the horse had done very well once returned home and appreciated racing locally today.
ARCHAIC LUSTRE - over-raced early stages.
MY NIKAYLA - broke near the 1200 metres due to an easing of the pace losing ground.
Race 4   CHRIS JONES 'BAYLEYS REAL ESTATE' PACE
NOT REALLY BLONDE - held up early and middle stages of the run home.
DALNESS FIRST - weakened over the concluding stages Driver J Curtin advised that one hopple shortener had failed to activate after becoming entangled. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
SEAPRIS - paced roughly after 150 metres when improving to the lead. Again paced roughly near the 1300 metres having to be steadied.
CHARNUI - broke briefly at the start.
SAINT WAITAKI - briefly crowded by an outside runner at the start.
EL SIRRAR - shifted in abruptly shortly after the start. Raced wide in the early stages.
ALL TOGETHER NOW - broke at the start losing its chance. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
ROCKNROLL DIVA - late scratching at 10.15am on Veterinary advice. Stood down pending a Veterinary clearance.
CABALLE BEACH - held up leaving the final bend.
ARDEN COUNTRY - Driver R Close was spoken to advisedly for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the home straight.
BEAUVIEW GEM - weakened leaving the final bend.
Race 5   WALKER DAVEY SEARELLS ACCOUNTANTS MOBILE PACE
BROMAC HYPE - Driver J Morrison was warned for the manner in which he drove near the 150 metres when allowing his runner to shift ground marginally which contributed to SHADOW AVEROSS being checked.
SENSE OF OCCASION - hung inwards in the home straight. Driver M Edmonds admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) and Whip & Rein Regulation in that he used his whip free of the rein in the home straight and was fined $200 by the JCA.
RHYOLITE - paced roughly in the early stages and was restrained to the rear of the field. When spoken to regarding the performance Driver R Close reported that the horse had paced roughly on various occasions however had finished the race off well when balanced up.
FRAUD - the connections advised the mare would be racing in foal.
SHADOW AVEROSS - checked and broke near the 150 metres when runners either side shifted ground marginally.
IT'S A LAUGH - raced wide in the early stages.
BOMBOLLA - broke in the score-up and was out of position at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
IT'S A SHAWTHING - over-raced through the middle stages. Held up throughout the run home.
MALDITO - when spoken to regarding the improved performance Trainer V Sell could offer no explanation and was surprised with the effort.
Race 6   GARY COCKRAM HYUNDAI TROT
PRINCE RANIER - held up final bend and in the early stages of the run home. Broke when attempting a run which had not developed near the 250 metres. Driver T Williams admitted a breach of 869(3)(b) in that he drove carelessly (striking a wheel) and was fined $350 by the JCA.
RUSTY I AM - Co-Trainer P Wakelin advised that the gelding had been treated for ulcers since last racing.
SUNGAIT'S LEGACY - raced wide early stages. Weakened final bend.
SUNNY VALLEY - late scratching at 1.20pm on Veterinary advice. Stood down pending a Veterinary clearance.
BUFFY NORTHSTAINS - broke near the 1400 metres losing all chance.
TRES MAGNIFIQUE - raced wide throughout. Weakened final bend.
LISTEN EASY - raced wide early stages. Weakened leaving the final bend.
Race 7   SELWYN DISTRICT COUNCIL (JUNIOR DRIVERS) MOBILE PACE
EDGE SHEERAN - raced roughly early stages then broke shortly after losing its chance. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
SILVER LADY - Trainer K Barron advised that the mare has had a caslick procedure since last racing. Driver S Payne was spoken to advisedly for using his whip free of the rein in the early stages of the home straight.
ARIZONAWILDCAT - held up in the early stages of the run home.
MICKEY FITZ - Driver J Campbell was spoken to advisedly for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the home straight.
ALTA REDEEMER - paced very roughly for the final 300 metres having to be restrained by Driver K Newman with the gelding not able to be tested. Driver K Newman explained that the gelding had raced keenly in the parked position through the early stages and had paced roughly on several occasions. Mr Newman added that considering the horse was up a grade from its last start he was not disappointed with its effort.
IDEALINDREAMS - held up final bend and in the early stages of the run home.
LATERINTHEDAY - Trainer J Simpson was warned for being late to present his mare onto the track.
SWAP OVER - raced roughly in the early stages.
Race 8   FRESH CHOICE MERIVALE PACE
TRUEHAWK - broke at the start losing ground.
GAYLE FORCE - when questioned regarding the performance Driver C Thornley explained that he had become poorly positioned in a slowly run race and then had difficulty improving when the pace quickened. Mr Thornley said he was pleased with the manner his gelding had found the line despite this.
A ROCKNROLL STAR - crowded by an outside runner shortly after the start. Raced wide early stages.
JUST N AWE - began awkwardly and shifted inwards soon after the start. Driver J Curtin reported that he sustained a punctured sulky tyre during the running.
THE GO TO MAN - raced wide early stages.
SPANNA - hampered by breaking runners in the early stages. Held up for clear racing room for the majority of the home straight.
PINE CONE - broke at the start losing ground.
CAESAR'S QUEST - held up final bend and in the early stages of the run home.
FUN IN THE DARK - slow in the early stages. Junior Driver A Cameron was spoken to advisedly in relation to her starting position when drawn Unruly. Miss Cameron assisted by M Purvis admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) & the Whip and Rein Regulation for using her whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the home straight and was fined $200 by the JCA.
Race 9   CANTERBURY TROTTING OWNERS ASSN. MOTUKARARA CUP (HCP PACE)
A false start was declared when the front barrier strand did not clear the outside runners.
ALREADY GONE - shifted outwards at the start. Held up early stages of the run home.
SOUTHERLY CHANGE - swung sideways and refused to move off with the field. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare. Paced roughly on the first bend. Weakened final bend.
SHE'S TOUGH - held up early and middle stages of the run home.
KISS THE GIRLS - weakened leaving the final bend.
CHEEZEL - held up early stages of the run home.
BACK IN BLACK - Driver T Chmiel was spoken to advisedly for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the home straight.
Race 10   CRATE & BARREL (LEESTON) TROT
CALL THIS FUN - broke near the 100 metres.
MICHELLE - late scratching at 11.45am due to Trainer W Higgs being unwell.
MAJESTIC SUNSET - when spoken to regarding the gelding's performance Driver J Curtin could offer no explanation. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the horse had suffered an atrial fibrillation. Stood down pending a Veterinary clearance including the results of an ECG.
ALVIRA HEST - when spoken to regarding the mare's performance Driver J Young-Grant advised the horse had become positioned further back than anticipated and when considering that felt it had run on satisfactorily.
ARRAN CHIEF - Driver A Faulks was spoken to advisedly for using his whip with more than a wrist flicking motion in the home straight.
SUN SWINGER - trotted roughly in the run home.
Race 11   BILL DENTON MEMORIAL MOBILE PACE
DALLAS GRIMES - Trainer I Lee advised that the mare has had a fetlock injected since last racing.
DASHTOTHEBEACH - raced wide throughout. Weakened final bend.
CHAL BE - held up early stages of the run home.
JOHNNY EYRE - had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the early and middle stages of the home straight.
STAR REACTOR - raced wide early stages. Raced keenly in the parked position throughout and because of this was not able to accept cover from the improving DASHTOTHEBEACH in the middle stages. Weakened final bend.
MAD LU LI - Trainer K Cox advised that the mare has been served since last racing.
MAGICOL IDEAL - ran outwards in the run home despite the efforts of Driver T Williams and came together with WHO MADE WHO over the final 100 metres.
WHO MADE WHO - raced keenly early and middle stages. Lay inwards in the early stages of the final straight and paced roughly before coming together with MAGICOL IDEAL when that runner shifted outwards near the 100 metres. Driver T Chmiel was warned for using his whip free of the rein in the home straight. Mr Chmiel was also warned to make a greater effort to maintain a straight course in the run home.
