A hearing was opened and adjourned as it was alleged Amateur Driver S Wigg drove KAYLA MAGUIRE in a manner capable of diminishing the chances of her horse winning by failing to ease her drive during the middle stages when racing outside the leader HIGHVIEW JUSTICE so as to give KAYLA MAGUIRE some respite which would thereby enable the mare to finish the race off in the most competitive manner possible.

KAYLA MAGUIRE - Following this event Stewards considered a charge under Rule 869(3)(f) in regard to Amateur Driver S Wigg's driving tactics with KAYLA MAGUIRE through the middle stages of this race. Ms Wigg stated that over the early stages she raced without cover outside the leader and two runners were attempting to improve forward to her outside in the 3 wide-line, namely CLIFTON FLUTTER and MARIA KIRILENKO, both of which were long in the market. Her driving instructions were to go forward and lead. So at the 1400m she activated gear and passing the 1200m urged the mare forward encouraging it with the reins and whip. The leader HIGHVIEW JUSTICE, which she believed was not a natural leader, responded with its driver encouraging it also with the whip on a number of occasions including after the winning post with a round to go preventing her crossing to the lead. She stated that her mare raced lethargically so she desisted and continued to race outside HIGHVIEW JUSTICE. KAYLA MAGUIRE finished 3rd beaten 1.75 lengths in arrears of the winner. Stewards reviewed the mare's recent racing record and after taking into account Ms Wigg's evidence and the race sectionals, in particular the 3rd last 400m which was run in 31.2 seconds, decided not to proceed with this matter.
