Mr Douglas advised the mare had trotted roughly and broken on occasion in recent starts and given this he was reluctant to apply any significant pressure. Mr Douglas further added that due to the mare's history of breaking he felt it would be more beneficial to have IT'S SUMMERTIME trot safely to the finish line, adding he would be removing the whip for upcoming starts, and would also be adding back the over-check to assist with the horse trotting. STYLISH MEMPHIS - held up for racing room in the middle stages of the home straight. Stewards questioned driver R May regarding his decision to shift inwards leaving the final bend resulting in him being held up. Mr May explained that his horse had to chase throughout from it's handicap and was in the middle stages giving up, what he estimated to be, about 70 metres. He said that at the 400 metres his runner was beginning to show some signs of pressure and began laying inwards which he felt was due to the horses condition giving out due to it being fresh up from a lengthy spell. Mr May added that had his runner been travelling better he had intended to shift around ROBYNS PLAYBOY however felt it best not to fight his filly and allow her to take up the position behind SEE YA WRITE who Mr May felt would win easily from its position. After considering the explanation and reviewing films the comments of Mr May were accepted.
