Race 1   SELLING? CALL CRAIG AT HARCOURTS TROT
MARANATHA ATLAS - broke shortly after the start. Authorisation of 4th placing being awarded was withheld until the Stewards were satisfied the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horse Regulations.
AGENT Z - broke near the 1750 metres.
MUCHACHA BONITA - briefly hampered by a breaking runner passing the 900 metres.
FUNKY MONKEY - broke passing the 900 metres briefly hampering a trailing runner.
TOP POCKET CHANCE - broke passing the 900 metres losing some ground. Authorisation of 5th placing being awarded was withheld until the Stewards were satisfied the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horse Regulations.
ANDIAMO - broke shortly after the start.
JAY BEE AND LOU - slow to begin.
GENTLE MAC - broke at the start and continued in a break on the outside of the track for some distance. Again broke entering the back straight proving difficult for driver T Robertson to restrain. Stood down to trial on one occasion to the Stewards satisfaction prior to racing next.
EVERMORE - trotted roughly on various occasions during the running.
Race 2   HOUSE OF TRAVEL LAKERS INVERCARGILL MOBILE PACE
OLIVE COOK - weakened rounding the final bend after racing in the parked position throughout.
IDEAL GLACIER - raced wide into the first bend.
THE NIGHT WATCHMAN - driver R Swain advised the gelding had felt indifferent in its action during the running. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a high respiratory rate and elevated temperature. Blood tests were conducted which Stewards will follow up with trainer R Swain in the coming days.
TARGARYEN - held up rounding the final bend.
SQUARE DEALER - over-raced in the early stages. Raced wide rounding the final bend.
Trainer R Swain advised Stewards on 16 July that THE NIGHT WATCHMAN is being treated for a virus.
Race 3   JIMMY'S PIES MOBILE PACE
ALEXIS ROCKET - hampered by a tiring runner passing the 750 metres. Lay inwards over the concluding stages when under pressure.
HOPEFUL - weakened from the 800 metres hampering trailing runners. When questioned regarding the performance driver T Robertson could offer no tangible explanation. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the filly to have an elevated heart rate and slow recovery. Trainer T Robertson advised the filly would now be sent for a spell.
BRIGHTEST MOMENT - broke in score-up losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
THE BIG YIN - raced wide in the early stages prior to obtaining the parked position passing the 1400 metres.
SWEET ANNIE - broke in the score-up losing its chance and being retired from the event. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the filly.
LYNRYD SKYNRYD - hampered by a tiring runner passing the 750 metres.
MAJOR PUNTER - lay inwards entering the final bend. Continued to lay inwards having to be straightened on various occasions during the run home and as a result could not be fully driven out by driver B Orange.
UNSURPASSABLE - briefly steadied passing the 50 metres.
SHADZEE - briefly hampered in the score-up.
Race 4   CLARK BARRON RACING STABLES MOBILE PACE
SCRITTORE - out of position at the start despite the efforts of driver A Armour. Paced roughly passing the 900 metres when the pace eased on the marker line. Weakened from the 800 metres hampering trailing runners. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
ART PROFILE - raced wide rounding the first bend prior to improving to the parked position passing the 1750 metres. Over-raced through the middle stages. Weakened from the 500 metres. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have an elevated heart rate.
SMOKIN ANNIE - hampered by a tiring runner near the 750 metres.
KENNINGTON GIRL - lay inwards rounding the first bend. Paced roughly and broke briefly passing the 900 metres when the pace eased on the marker line. Hampered by a tiring runner near the 750 metres. Driver T Robertson reported he did not release the hopple shorteners applied to the mare due to her tendency to pace roughly rounding the bends.
Race 5   J CURTIN INTERNATIONAL HORSE TRADER ON COURSE TODAY TROT
RUBY SEDDON - broke at the start losing ground. Again broke racing into the first bend losing its chance.
SMUDGEE - held up for racing room through the middle stages of the home straight.
MATAI JETSTAR - trotted roughly over the concluding stages.
SPOTLIGHT THE VALLEY - over-raced in the middle stages.
SUNNY VALLEY - weakened from the 700 metres. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the mare to be suffering from severe mud fever and cracks to the heels. Further Veterinary treatment has been recommended which Stewards will follow up with trainer B Munro. Connections were advised SUNNY VALLEY was stood down pending a Veterinary Clearance.
DAY DREAMIN - broke shortly after the start losing considerable ground.
LAURA BUSH - briefly hampered shortly after the start.
Race 6   MCNEILLS POULTRY FARM MOBILE PACE
TAD LINCOLN - held up by a tiring runner rounding the final bend and in the early stages of the home straight.
OPAWA MACH - raced wide in the early stages prior to reaching the parked position near the 1650 metres.
MAGNETIC WATCH - weakened rounding the final bend hampering trailing runners.
JABALI - raced wide through the middle stages. Junior driver T Larsen assisted by K Larsen admitted a breach of Rule 869(2) in that he used his whip on more occasions than permitted by Clause (b) of the Use of Whip Regulations. After viewing replays and hearing submissions on penalty the JCA imposed a fine of $200.
BETTER GALLEON - when questioned regarding the improved performance the connections advised they were not disappointed with the last start effort and today the gelding had drawn benefit from being driven aggressively out of the gate and racing on the pace.
SHOT IN THE DARK - over raced at various stages throughout. Junior driver S O'Reilly was queried as to whether she could have improved at an earlier stage on the final bend than when she had. Miss O'Reilly explained that this was her first drive on this runner however when reviewing the horses previous starts formed the opinion that the mare was best suited when able to be saved for one run. She added that this was why she had waited until the early stages of the home straight to improve. Stewards accepted her comments.
STAR RULER - held up by a tiring runner rounding the final bend.
MAAHES - broke in the score-up and failed to settle for some distance losing its chance. Stood down to trial on one occasion to the Stewards satisfaction prior to racing next.
Race 7   WINTON'S TOP PUB MOBILE PACE
SHEEZA SPORT - hampered by a tiring runner rounding the final bend.
STUN GUN - improved quickly to the lead passing the 900 metres. Under pressure and weakened from the 500 metres. When spoken to regarding the tactics he adopted driver J Cox advised his instructions were to push forward early and find the front however due to the early pace this was not an option He said that when the pace eased mid race and his runner became keen he made a concerted move forward and took the lead. He added that he had been disappointed with the horses efforts over the final stages. Stewards noted his comments and will speak with trainer P Court in the coming days.
Trainer P Court advised Stewards on 14 July that STUN GUN has recovered well following its hard run at Ascot Park last week and will continue with its current preparation.
Race 8   J & R LYDERS CONTRACTING MOBILE PACE
TAIRLAW TOLL - attempted to improve wide from the 700 metres, however was under pressure rounding the final bend finishing in a distant last placing. When questioned driver N Williamson could offer no tangible explanation for the performance of the gelding. Stewards will follow up with trainer B McIntyre in the coming days.
CHUCKLES - raced wide into the first bend prior to being taken forward to lead near the 1600 metres.
DODGETHEBULLET - was obliged to improve four-wide rounding the final bend.
Trainer B McIntyre advised Stewards on 12 July that TAIRLAW TOLL has been sent for a spell.
Race 9   NS VETS TOTAL VET CARE MOBILE PACE
LONGUEVAL - held up by a tiring runner rounding the final bend.
DUKE OF DUNDEE - paced roughly for a few strides entering the home straight.
UNDER WRAPS - raced wide into the first bend.
WOLF WEST - lay inwards on the bends throughout.
