CHANGE IS GOOD - raced wide early stages. Stewards questioned driver T Williams regarding his decision to surrender the lead near the 700 metres to the improving MATT DAMON. Mr Williams advised that after beginning so well he had to work hard in the early stages to find the lead and had then continued to set strong sectionals through the middle stages. Mr Williams added that prior to him surrendering the lead his mare had dropped the bit and proved lethargic and so felt that taking a trail may encourage his horse to race more enthusiastically. He also said that when MATT DAMON had pressed for the front he felt that driver M Anderson was intent on leading regardless, so thought it was counter-productive to ask his horse to sprint from this stage. Stewards noted his comments.
MIKEY MAGUIRE - had some difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the early stages of the run home.
