Race Comments

Race 1   THE ALEX'S 'SUNDAY ROAST' - BOOK NOW MOBILE PACE
MARATHON MAN - lay in rounding the final turn contacting track markers approaching the passing lane.
DOUBTLESS BAY - driver T Cameron advised that the activation cord became entangled in the gear resulting in the deafeners not being released.
APIECEOFLOU - lacked gate speed and was slow to begin. Broke free of interference with 300 metres to run losing its chance. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing manners record.
FRANCO NANDOR - raced keenly outside the leader on a slow tempo through the middle stages.
PRINCE OF PLEASURE - shifted ground outwards throughout the course of the run home.
Race 2   SMITH & PARTNERS MOBILE PACE
VESPA - broke at the start losing all chance. An information was lodged alleging that Junior Driver F Schumacher drove VESPA carelessly contacting the wheel of the sulky of BETTERBEBETTER causing his own horse to gallop and lose its chance. A charge was admitted and Mr Schumacher was fined $250 by the JCA under Rule 869(3)(b).
RACKETEERS BOY - a length out of position at the start. Junior driver K Bublitz was issued with a warning to maintain his position on the mobile barrier gate.
ACCELERE - held up final turn.
Race 3   METALCRAFT TROT (STAND)
UNCLE LOUIS - broke shortly after the start losing all chance.
ALCATRAZ - broke approaching 400 metres losing ground before recovering and finishing strongly into 3rd place. Authorisation was withheld until the Stewards confirmed that the gelding had complied with the Breaking Horses Regulation.
BRIGHT AND SHINEY - was slow to begin then broke shortly after the start. Broke again approaching the 900 metres when taking evasive action away from a breaking runner.
RUBY RIDGE - broke inside the 400 metres.
DREAMKEEPER - broke at the start. Broke again approaching the 900 metres losing its chance.
CEPHEUS - slow away at the start.
ASTERIA LAVRA - broke shortly after the start losing all chance.
RASTUSBURN - broke shortly after the start and trailed the field throughout.
Race 4   DAWSON HARFORD MOBILE PACE
EMMI ROSE - held up final turn.
HOT AND TREACHEROUS - held up final turn and in the early stages of the run home. Driver M McKendry advised that after being held up rounding the final turn, he then received clear racing room inside the 200 metres before peaking inside the last 50 metres.
PRIME SILVER - raced three wide early.
LARRY LINCOLN - showed gate speed to lead then received a good run in the trail before weakening inside the final 200 metres. Driver Z Butcher advised that he was disappointed with the performance as the colt had been trialing well leading into tonight's event. Trainer R Green reported that LARRY LINCOLN had recovered satisfactorily following its run and could only put the poor performance down to being its first race since 18 October 2019.
MAN OF ACTION - broke for several strides passing the 150 metres when in the lead losing ground.
Race 5   TERI BUCKWELL 'THE NUMS DID THE TALKIN' HANDICAP TROT
SAINT MICHEL - trainer T Vince was cautioned after the removable deafeners failed to release. Mr Vince advised it was his intention to have the gelding's hocks injected early next week by his veterinarian.
VATICAN HILL - broke passing the 300 metres and failed to settle.
XEBEC - broke shortly after the start losing its chance. The gelding was declared Unruly for standing starts.
Race 6   CROMBIE LOCKWOOD MOBILE PACE
SPIRIT OF TREES - trainer M Collins was questioned regarding his late arrival on course. He advised he had transport difficulties during transit, his explanation was accepted on this occasion.
WEREN'T WATCHING - from its wide barrier draw was caught three wide early before being restrained to the rear and then improved along the running line. Held up four deep on the running line rounding the final turn contacting track markers before receiving clear racing room inside the 200 metres running on strongly to finish fourth. Driver P Ferguson advised that he did not activate the removable deafeners as the gelding had a tendency to run out over the final stages. Mr P Ferguson was questioned in regard to his driving tactics and he advised that from its barrier draw he was caught wide early and that the filly tends to over-race when in the open therefore he elected to restrain to get cover. He further stated that WEREN'T WATCHING had given him a difficult drive so he elected to attempt to improve on the inside and drive for luck.
Race 7   MCMURTRY FARMS HANDICAP PACE
COPY THAT - made a clean beginning at its 45 metre handicap mark. Improved forward from inside the 2300 metres and proceeded to over-race near the 2000 metre mark, pulling fiercely outside the leader approaching the 1200 metres with driver M McKendry taking the colt wider on the track after it appeared to choke down and was then pulled up. Driver M McKendry advised that when restraining the colt, it contacted the sulky wheels with its hind legs which compounded the problem and as a result he had to pull up. A post race Veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
Race 8   'UNBREAKABLE - GRAEME & MATTHEW WILLIAMS MOB PACE
EDAMFAST - three wide early then improved three wide again with cover from 1150 metres. An investigation was held into the manner in which driver B Hadley shifted ground outwards inside the 1200 metres which resulted in A BETTER DANCER being momentarily inconvenienced. After hearing the relative evidence and viewing the replays no further action was deemed necessary other than to remind Mr Hadley of his obligations.
AKARANA PRINCE - trainer T Vince was questioned regarding the improved performance. Mr Vince advised that the gelding had over-raced badly in its recent races and in his opinion was in an easier grade tonight and had been drawn to be driven forward to lead. His comments were noted.
RAINBOW WIRI - three wide without cover from the 1200 metres.
A BETTER DANCER - improved three wide approaching the 1200 metres and was momentarily inconvenienced.
LYNTON CREEK - trainer D Butcher was issued a caution in regard to presenting LYNTON CREEK with an incorrect saddle cloth.
Race 9   HARAS des TROTTEURS HANDICAP TROT
BRO FAWKES S - stopped inside the 600 metres.
KRISTOFFERSON - inclined to lay in and trot roughly rounding the bends. Held up by tiring runner inside the final 300 metres.
MI ANNA - weakened inside the 300 metres.
GREAT FANTASY - broke shortly after the start losing ground. Weakened inside the 400 metres.
MAGNAFIQUE - raced three wide early.
DAISY HILL - inclined to lay in rounding the bends. Raced on one rein throughout the run home shifting into the passing lane when well clear of the remainder of the field. When questioned driver J Dickie advised that when the mare improved to the lead inside the 400 metres it lay in badly and shifted down into the passing lane despite his efforts. Mr Dickie further advised that the stable will be making gear alterations to attempt to improve the mare's tractability.
