Race Comments

Race 1   SCHWEPPES MOBILE PACE
There was a slight delay to the start due to an area of the track needing to be regraded.
TOMMY TUKAA - lay in under pressure on the final bend, shifted inwards near 175 metres, which hampered an inside runner. Driver T Cameron was issued with a warning for the manner in which he drove at this time, causing CLIFTON FLUTTER to race in restricted room. When spoken to regarding the performance, Mr Cameron stated that he was disappointed with the effort and could offer no explanation. Trainer J Young, when spoken to stated that the gelding had worked well leading into the event, but was disappointed with the effort. Mr Young also advised that he would have blood tests taken in the coming days. A post race Veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Stewards will follow up in the coming days.
CLIFTON FLUTTER - over-raced middle stages. Checked and raced roughly for several strides near the 150 metres.
NURBURGRING - over-raced middle stages. Broke approaching the 400 metres. A post race Veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. A warning was placed on the racing manners record of this gelding. Driver J Dickie was warned for use of the whip on a runner who was out contention.
DOWN THE HATCH - improved three wide without cover from the 1500 metres where it remained throughout. Weakened final bend.
JACK RYAN - raced wide early stages.
JOHNNY MAC - held up final bend.
Trainer J Young advised Stewards on 4 March that bloods tests taken from TOMMY TUKAA revealed that the gelding was suffering from a virus necessitating its scratching from its Auckland engagement tomorrow night.

FERRITTS SISTER - over-raced middle stages, held up final bend.
TIGER SWIFT - over-raced middle stages when sitting in the parked position.
KENDRA - lay in final bend contacting track markers and briefly pacing roughly.
SOME DO - driver Z Butcher was questioned by the Stewards as to whether he could have improved or taken up a more prominent position in the middle stages. Mr Butcher explained the mare traditionally is best performed when driven with a sit. He maintained his position and the hope for cover into the race which did not eventuate. His chances had been further diminished through the very fast last 800 metres (56.2).
Race 3   OLYMPIC SWISS WATCHES HANDICAP TROT
There was a delay to the start of the race due to the front tape breaking and needing to be replaced.

BORDEAUX - trotted roughly throughout.
Race 4   LINCOLN FARMS 'THE FOUNDERS CUP' FFA MOBILE PACE
DANCE TIME - held up final bend.
CHECK IN - raced wide early stages. Held up final bend and throughout the majority of the home straight.
STAR GALLERIA - when spoken to regarding the performance, driver T Mitchell advised the gelding had travelled well throughout but showed nothing when asked for an effort. However he noted the horse was fresh up since 17th January and he thought the horse would derive benefit from the run. Trainer S Reid was disappointed with the gelding's run and advised he would have blood tests taken in the next few days. Stewards will follow up in the coming days regarding the results of this.
S Reid reported to Stewards that blood tests taken from Star Galleria subsequent to its disappointing performance showed the horse to have a reduced red blood cell count. Mr Reid added that in hindsight the horse may have been slightly overworked in the lead up week especially considering the hot temperatures. A follow up blood test taken later in the week showed the horses red cell count to have improved to normal levels
Race 5   WOODLANDS STUD NORTHERN DERBY (PRELUDE) MOBILE PACE
COPY THAT - driver D Butcher advised that he did not activate the removable deafeners due to having the field covered.

IT'S ALL ABOUT FAITH - raced roughly in the early stages when being restrained. Hampered on first bend by a breaking runner. When spoken to regarding the manner the amount of vigour she displayed over the concluding stages, driver N Rasmussen explained her horse had raced roughly in the early stages and then been inconvenienced soon after causing her to work harder than expected. She added that her runner had lay in under pressure on the final bend and then failed to respond to her urgings at stages of the run home when racing greenly. She further added that colt was fresh up since December which she felt had contributed to it racing greenly. Stewards noted Ms Rasmussen's comments but advised her that in future it was expected she would be able to demonstrate some more discernible examples of encouragement.
GREATEST SHOWMAN - weakened from the 800 metres and was pulled up soon after. A post race Veterinary examination indicated the colt had suffered an atrial fibrillation. Stood down pending a veterinary clearance.
