Pre-race blood testing was carried out.

Prior to Race 9 the mobile gate was tested and deemed to be unsafe due to the deteriorating track conditions with Races 9 and 10 started by way of a moving start.

Race 2 - AIRPARK CANTERBURY TROT
Trainer R Austin advised Stewards that IDLE STUARTIA has been treated with antibiotics subsequent to its disappointing performance at Addington last week with the mare continuing with its current preparation.
Race 6 - PGG WRIGHTSON NZ SALES SERIES FILLIES FINAL (MOB PACE)
Stable representative J Dunn advised Stewards on 20 February that SPELLBOUND has been treated for an ulcer since competing at Addington last week and will have a brief freshen up before resuming.
Race 7 - CANTERBURY PRINT SERVICE SUMMER CUP (MOBILE PACE)
Stable representative J Dunn advised Stewards on 20 February that a scope taken from HEISENBERG following its disappointing performance at Addington last week revealed no abnormalities with the gelding now having a brief freshen up before resuming.

Race 9 - PI & GJ KENNARD BLOODSTOCK MOBILE PACE
Driver B Hope (assisted by J Dunn) admitted a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) in that he drove carelessly when allowing his runner LUELLA to shift inwards over the final stages which caused interference to MINI MINE YET and the JCA suspended his licence from the conclusion of racing on 28 February up to and including 6 March 2020 (2 days).

Race 1   ASHBURTON GUARDIAN TROT
SONOMA TYRON - broke racing into the first bend and shifted outwards abruptly severely checking JAGUAR BAY with its driver P Wakelin being dislodged from the sulky. Stood down to trial satisfactorily on one occasion.
BACARDI PRIDE - broke racing into the first bend.
MENTALIST - broke in the early stages.
RAINING IN MY HEART - trotted roughly in the early stages. Checked rounding the first bend. Broke near the 1900 metres.
SONNY LACHLAN - trainer R Holmes was issued a $100 Minor Infringement Notice after the gelding was presented with a pacifier which had not been notified. Broke after 150 metres. Checked rounding the first bend.
ZSAHARA - trotted roughly in the home straight.
IT WASN'T ME - the near side number detached shortly after the start. Trotted roughly in the home straight and was unable to be fully driven out.
JAGUAR BAY - severely checked rounding the first bend dislodging driver P Wakelin from the sulky. Miss Wakelin was examined by St John personnel and cleared of injury. A veterinary examination of JAGUAR BAY revealed a minor abrasion on the right front leg.
SAME - broke passing the 1000 metres.
MONO GAMBLE - broke near the 800 metres. A warning was placed on the gelding's racing record. Trotted roughly in the home straight. Trainer S Smolenski reported he would be making gear changes prior to the gelding resuming.
KD HAWK - broke in the early stages.
Race 2   ASHBURTON MSA LIQUOR CENTRE MOBILE PACE
STYX KIWI - hung outwards late in the run home.
MIGHTY REACTOR - the murphy blind became detached in the early stages. Paced roughly after 100 metres. Held up early stages of the run home.
MOSSMAN - broke briefly near the 400 metres.
PEMBROOK TILLY - crowded late in the run home.
FOR TODAY - lay inwards in the home straight.
Race 3   PHILIP MCDONALD MEMORIAL TROT
RED HARBOUR - broke briefly at the start.
MAJESTIC ACTION - broke at the start and continued in a break before bucking on several occasions and fell to the track with driver B Crothers being dislodged from the sulky. The horse escaped driverless and raced into the body of the field with Stewards directing the race to be stopped in accordance with Rule 211A(1). Due to the field having raced in excess of 1000 metres, Stewards ordered that the race be abandoned. Mr Crothers was examined by St John personnel and cleared of injury. A veterinary examination of MAJESTIC ACTION revealed no abnormalities. MAJESTIC ACTION was stood down to complete two satisfactory trials and placed on the unruly for future standing starts.
CALL THIS FUN - broke after 150 metres.
INSIST THE WIN - trainer B Butt was issued a $100 Minor Infringement Notice for presenting the gelding with blinds which had not been notified. Broke after 100 metres.
GLOBAL FLIGHT - broke at the start.
Drivers J Morrison & D Keast were both spoken to advisedly to ensure they do not enter the track during the race in an attempt to capture a driverless horse.
Race 4   NEWLANDS AUTO ELECTRICAL MARES MOBILE TROT
BRIGHT GLOW - struck track markers around the first bend.
CRUSHER COLLINS - held up early stages of the run home.
CHIVASION - raced wide early stages.
MONRIKA - raced wide early stages. Held up early stages of the home straight and trotted roughly. When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer M Howard advised the mare had responded well to a freshen up. Driver S McNally defended a breach of Rule 857(7)(d) which alleged he came to the starting gate out of position resulting in horses outside him being crowded in the score up prior to a false start being declared. After viewing the replays and hearing evidence from Stewards and Mr McNally the JCA dismissed the charge.
FULL OF HOPE - sustained a flat tyre in the score up with a false start being declared. The start was then delayed due to FULL OF HOPE requiring a sulky change. The start was further delayed by race day control due to clashing with a race at Matamata.
FAR FROM TRUE - crowded in the score up at the first attempt and contacted the sulky tyre of FULL OF HOPE which punctured.
MAJESTIC CHEVRON - raced wide early and middle stages. Trotted roughly in the home straight.
MISSIE CASTLETON - hung inwards and struck track markers rounding the first bend.
SIOUX PRINCESS - broke near the 500 metres when being shifted wider on the track by an inside runner.
Race 5   NEVELE R FILLIES SERIES (HEAT 3) MOBILE PACE
The start was put back three minutes due to the delay in the previous race.
LULU LE MANS - when spoken to regarding the improved performance, driver S Ottley reported the horse was racing down in grade from its last start when performing well and had obtained a favourable run throughout today.
NARCISSIST - the required veterinary clearance was received. Raced wide early stages.
VESNINA - paced roughly around the final bend and throughout the run home. Driver B Butt reported that due to this he was unable to drive the filly out in the home straight or activate the removable deafeners.
Race 6   MASTERGUARD FIRE & SECRUITY MOBILE PACE
PEMBROOK LEGACY - raced wide early stages.
SCARED STIFF - paced roughly rounding the first bend when being eased down by an outside runner. Had difficulty obtaining clear racing room in the home straight.
LOOK SHARP - held up early and middle stages of the run home.
MADIBA - held up early stages of the run home.
Following this race the track was downgraded to Good.
Race 7   NEUMANN'S TYRES VIPAL HAMBLETONIAN 3YO CLASSIC (MOBILE TROT)
MIDNIGHT DASH - hung inwards final bend and struck a pylon which was dislodged.
TRAMPS LIKE US - trainer D Keast was issued a warning after the gelding was presented with a pacifier which had not been notified. Briefly locked wheels with TAILORED ELEGANCE on the final bend.
KIWITRIX - held up early stages of the run home.
ANDOVERLOV - held up early stages of the run home.
ONE GUZ HALL - weakened final bend.
MUSCULATURE METRO - broke near the 350 metres. Weakened final bend. Driver G Smith reported that the gelding had raced lethargically throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with the connections in the coming days.
MUSCLE MOUNTAIN - broke racing into the first bend.
THE LAST ONE - held up final bend.
TAILORED ELEGANCE - hung inwards final bend and briefly locked wheels with TRAMPS LIKE US. When spoken to regarding the performance, driver T Williams reported the filly had lost momentum when locking wheels on the final bend however had been unable to quicken in the straight. Mr Williams added he was of the opinion the filly had failed to handle the track conditions.
Following this race the track was downgraded to slushy with trainers instructed to fit mudguards to their sulkies.
Trainer J Harrington advised Stewards on 26 February that blood tests taken from MUSCULATURE METRO showed that the gelding was suffering from anaemia with this being treated. Mr Harrington added that MUSCULATURE METRO will return to the workouts before resuming.
Race 8   CANSTAFF NEW ZEALAND 2YO SAPLING STAKES (MOBILE PACE)
BOYZHAVTIME - paced roughly in the home straight.
HIMSELF - broke briefly near the 500 metres when attempting to shift a runner wider on the track.
FRANCO MAREK - paced roughly late in the score up and was back slightly at the start.
Race 9   'HAPPY 80TH BIRTHDAY BOB HARRISON' MARES MOBILE PACE
SOUNDSLIKEART - over-raced through the middle stages. Held up early stages of the run home.
ELO LOUISE - paced roughly approaching the first bend. Again paced roughly in the home straight.
MOSSDALE ART - driver B Hope was spoken to advisedly for the manner in which he shifted ground in the early stages of the home straight.
NEMERA FRANCO - driver C Thornley reported he dropped his whip near the 1000 metres. When spoken to regarding the performance Mr Thornley advised the mare had failed to respond when placed under pressure and he was disappointed with the effort.
KENDRA - raced wide early stages.
ENCHANTEE - raced wide early stages.
Race 10   PAPER PLUS ASHBURTON MOBILE PACE
I'M JIMMY JAMES - crowded racing into the first bend.
PERAKI REACTOR - crowded racing into the first bend.
GLENTHORNE - had to be steadied racing into the first bend when crowded for racing room by NIMAH FRANCO which shifted ground inwards. Raced wide early stages.
JAZELLE - raced wide early stages.
NIMAH FRANCO - driver T Chmiel admitted a breach of Rule 869(4) in that he drove in a manner likely to cause interference by crossing GLENTHORNE when not sufficiently clear racing into the first bend with inside runners being crowded for racing room. After viewing the films and hearing evidence from Stewards and Mr Chmiel, the JCA suspended his licence from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 1 March 2020 (2 days).
ONLY IN AMERICA - crowded racing into the first bend and struck several pylons. Held up early stages of the run home.
