Race 1   PHILLIPS HORSE TRANSPORT / WATERFORCE TROT
MAINLAND PAT - lost a shin and tendon boot passing the 1100 metres. Hung inwards throughout. Weakened from the 900 metres. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Stood down to trial to the Stewards satisfaction on one occasion prior to racing next.
TOMMY TIDDLER - weakened from the 900 metres. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. A warning was placed on the racing performance of the gelding.
THE POWER BROKER - weakened rounding the final bend.
WHANGAMATA - weakened rounding the final bend.
BRANDY AND DRY - raced wide in the early stages.
KIWI HEIR - broke racing into the first bend. A warning was placed on the racing record of the mare. Driver R McIlwrick was issued a warning for the manner he addressed the barrier when attempting to anticipate the start.
BIRCH - broke passing the 2000 metres losing some ground. Again broke passing the 1600 metres and was eventually retired from the event due to a broken sulky.
WILLANGUS LAD - broke racing into the first bend losing some ground. Again broke passing the 600 metres. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
SLAINTE - raced wide in the early stages. Trotted roughly in the home straight and was unable to be fully driven out by driver M Williamson.
Race 2   HOKONUI HONDA MOBILE PACE
LOCK IT IN EDDIE - broke late in the score-up checking THE NIGHT WATCHMAN and necessitating a false start be declared. Driver B Orange elected to remain in his allotted barrier position for the restart. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding. Inconvenienced near the 1700 metres.
MISS PADDY WAGON - over-raced then broke briefly when there was a slight easing of the pace passing the 1700 metres.
AMERICAN MAC - raced wide over the early stages. Weakened passing the 600 metres, being retired from the event. When questioned regarding the performance driver C Ferguson advised the gelding had become worked up following the false start. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
JACCKA TED - lay inwards rounding the final bend contacting track markers. When questioned regarding the performance trainer W Adams advised the gelding had become worked up following the false start and then over-raced in the restart which had taken its toll over the concluding stages. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
THE NIGHT WATCHMAN - inconvenienced near the 1700 metres.
COUNTESS OF ARDEN - driver J Cox reported he had received a punctured sulky tyre during the running.
Race 3   KUBALA SEEDS JUNIOR DRIVERS TROT
TOLKIEN - broke shortly after the start.
DREAM OF PAT - trotted roughly and got back shortly after the start. Weakened from the 600 metres.
MISS BAMBOOCHA - broke at the start losing all chance. Will now be drawn Unruly for upcoming standing start engagements.
RYDGEMONT MILLY - held up in the early stages of the home straight. Broke passing the 150 metres. When questioned regarding the performance junior driver J Morrison reported the mare was unsuited by the Easy track conditions encountered today.
COUNT EYRE - trotted roughly in the home straight with junior driver B Laughton unable to drive the gelding out fully to the line.
LADY ZARA - broke passing the 500 metres. Appeared to be lame on return to the stabling area. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
HELLUVA WAY - weakened from the 700 metres.
Race 4   AON INSURANCE MOBILE PACE
CALICO HILL - paced roughly when being restrained to take cover passing the 1900 metres.
DELIGHT - when questioned regarding the performance driver B Orange could offer no tangible explanation.
VIGOROSO - paced roughly in the early stages. Over-raced in the middle stages.
Race 5   MACCA LODGE MOBILE PACE
ART PROFILE - lay inwards rounding the final bend contacting track markers.
RAKANELLIE - broke in the score-up checking HOLD THUMBS and necessitating a false start be declared. Driver B Barclay elected to remain in his allotted barrier position for the restart. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the filly. Will now be drawn Unruly for upcoming mobile start engagements. Over-raced in the middle stages.
MACH QUILLAN - raced wide in the early stages.
THE IRISH LION - weakened from the 900 metres. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. A warning was placed on the racing performance of the gelding.
JACCKA OLIVER - held up by a weakening runner near the 700 metres and lost ground in consequence. Paced roughly rounding the final bend.
Race 6   KIM MCDOWALL PAINTING & DECORATING CUP (HANDICAP PACE)
TARTAN TRILOGY - briefly locked wheels with KILOWATT KID in the early stages of the home straight.
BRIDESDALE ROBYN - broke at the start.
BETTERTHANBRIE - paced roughly on various occasions during the running.
MAIDONTHEBEACH - broke at the start losing considerable ground. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the mare.
LAWRENCE - broke at the start losing considerable ground. Driver B Williamson was issued a warning for the manner he attempted to return this gelding to its correct gait.
DACHY - hampered by a breaking runner in the early stages. Weakened rounding the final bend.
KILOWATT KID - briefly locked wheels with TARTAN TRILOGY in the early stages of the home straight.
CAST A SHADOW - shifted inwards on the final bend making contact with one track marker. Stewards were satisfied the gelding had gained no advantage through this and so took no action other than to remind driver A Beck of his responsibility to ensure contact is not made with track markers.
Race 7   GORE TOWN & COUNTRY CLUB HANDICAP TROT
MIDSUMMER QUEEN - broke at the start losing considerable ground. Again broke passing the 2400 metres losing its chance.
DIPENDRA - trotted roughly for a short distance near the 100 metres when attempting to improve its position between HUMBLE LADD and LISA MARIE P.
HUMBLE LADD - trotted roughly rounding the final bend and throughout the home straight. Driver R McIlwrick reported that due to this he was unable to drive the gelding out fully to the line.
Race 8   OLYMPIC WATCHES AT VAN DE WATERS PUNT FOR GOLD PACE
HOT STARFF - broke at the start. Over-raced throughout.
MOTORING MAJOR - slow to begin.
FOUR STARZZZ SHIRAZ - broke at the start. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
MYRCELLA - broke at the start losing all chance.
PICK SIX TELF - broke at the start.
JACKS N JAZZ - raced wide in the early stages.
Race 9   ROBYN'S TREASURE FILLIES & MARES MOBILE PACE
MILLWOOD CLEOPATRA - broke racing into the first bend and failed to settle, eventually being retired from the event. A warning was placed on the racing record of the mare.
ARCO - held up rounding the final bend and again in the early stages of the home straight.
INDULGENCE - when questioned regarding the improved performance trainer H Hunter advised that the mare had trained on well following its most recent start and was better suited by the shorter distance and the lesser calibre of today's field.
RAKARIPPA - raced wide until reaching the parked position near the 1000 metres.
BAILEYS DIAMOND - over-raced in the middle stages.
Following the running of this event Stewards spoke with Starter Mr B Ward who advised that the mobile unexpectedly gained speed prior to the start resulting in several runners being out of position at the dispatch point.
Race 10   T M BRUMBY BUILDER LTD/BAYLEYS REAL ESTATE GORE MOBILE PACE
VON RICHTHOFEN - broke early in the score-up however recovered to take up its rightful position at the dispatch.
ROSINUPTHEBOW - when questioned regarding the performance driver J Cox advised that the mare races at its best when not having to work too hard and is able to be driven with a sit. Mr Cox added that given ROSINUPTHEBOW had to race wide round the final bend and the fast closing sectional he was not disappointed with the effort.
WOLF WEST - late scratching on Veterinary advice at 3.27 pm after being found to be lame in the left hind leg.
Race 11   MATAURA BUTCHER SHOP / HOKONUI SUZUKI MOBILE PACE
MAXIMILIAN - broke passing the 500 metres. A warning was placed on the racing record of the gelding.
THE NAENAE EXPRESS - broke in the score-up checking BATTLE AXE and necessitating a false start be declared. Driver A Beck elected to remain in his allotted position for the restart. A warning was placed on the barrier record of the gelding.
BATTLE AXE - underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination after not having started for a considerable amount of time and was cleared to race. Raced wide in the early stages. Broke passing the 2000 metres. Lay inwards rounding the bend near the 900 metres.
PARTICULAR - raced wide in the early stages until reaching the parked position near the 1700 metres.
THE MIGHTY CULLEN - paced roughly in the score-up and was out of position at the start. Held up throughout the home straight.
HONOUR BEFORE GLORY - driver B Norman was issued a Minor Infringement Notice and fined $100 when driving with his foot removed from the sulky footrest in the home straight.
NATURAL FIRE - over-raced in the middle stages, skying its head on several occasions.
REAL CHANGE - held up throughout the home straight. Driver C Ferguson reported he had pulled a flat sulky tyre throughout.
TACTICAL CHANGE - Lay inwards rounding the final bend contacting a track marker. When questioned regarding the performance driver M Williamson could offer no explanation but added he would be recommending to the trainer that the gelding be driven for one run in future.
