DARK HORSE - Stewards questioned driver N Williamson regarding the tactics he adopted during the running. Of particular concern was the reasons he had elected not to improve his position from the 1000 metres. Mr Williamson explained the mare had worked hard to make up the 45 metres handicap over the first 900 metres and given the strong tempo of the race he was reluctant to shift wider at this stage. Mr Williamson believed his best chance was to attempt to improve into the race with a covered run and was of the opinion had he commenced a run earlier he would have been forced wider on the track. Mr Williamson further advised when he activated the removable deafeners the mare had trotted roughly. After hearing Mr Williamson's explanation and taking into account the mare's overall time Stewards deemed Mr Williamson's actions were not unreasonable and noted the comments.
