FUN IN THE DARK (S Smith) broke as the start was effected checking the trailing HONOUR SCROLL (L McKay) with both drivers being dislodged from their respective sulkies. As a result HONOUR SCROLL escaped driverless and continued before being captured near the 1600 metres. Stewards stopped the race in accordance with Rule 211A(1). Drivers S Smith and L McKay were examined by St John personnel and cleared of injury. HONOUR SCROLL was declared a late scratching by Order of Stewards. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed superficial abrasions to the mare. The start was further delayed due to FUN IN THE DARK requiring a sulky change. FUN IN THE DARK was sent to the unruly for the restart where it will remain for future mobile starts. | |
All remaining horses were examined by the Veterinarian prior to the restart and cleared to race. | |
BORN TO RUN broke when racing over the crossing near the 1700 metres resulting in all runners being checked to varying degrees. BORN TO RUN shifted outwards approaching the 1600 metres whilst in a break and locked sulky wheels with GLACIER COASTER with driver O Thornley being dislodged from the sulky. GLACIER COASTER escaped driverless and improved into the body of the field near the 1500 metres before being captured. Stewards stopped the race in accordance with Rule 211A(1). Driver O Thornley was examined by St John personnel and transported to Christchurch Hospital with an ankle injury. Miss Thornley was advised that a medical clearance will be required before she resumes driving. Stewards will speak with Miss Thornley regarding the manner she drove racing into the first bend. | |
Due to the race being stopped on two occasions, Stewards abandoned the race in accordance with Rule 211A(3) | |
Driver C Johnson was transported to Christchurch Hospital following the race with a knee injury due to being kicked in the stabling area. Mr Johnson was advised that a medical clearance will be required before he resumes driving. | |
Driver A Cameron (assisted by M Purvis) defended a charge issued under Rule 870(1) in that she failed to take BORN TO RUN clear of the field when in a break while leading near the 1700 metres. After viewing replays and hearing the evidence from all parties, the JCA upheld the charge and Miss Cameron's licence was suspended from the conclusion of racing today up to and including 15 February 2020 (5 days). |
